Yes, you have a chance... but it's significantly lessened now. The new charting the match data shows that, non USIMG applicants who needed to take step 1 again only had about a 25% chance of matching. Looking at the data for IM only, 39 non USIMGs matched with 2 attempts on step 1. 163 did not... so for IM it was about a 20% chance to match.

You will have to absolutely crush step 1 the next time you take it. You have to show that your first exam was a fluke. You cannot just barely pass the next time... you must do very well.

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear. You don't need to hear false reassurances, though. You need to know that it will be an extremely hard road from now on.

All the best.

Default I hear you...

This is just a slight re-post but ...I throught that this may help others...

''Day of the exam I freaked out, I was vomiting during the breaks because I was so nervous. I also had a concussion about four months before my exam, and in hindsight I should have listened to my Dean and my neurologist and not taken Step 1. Also..to worsen it all.. I know of only one other person who failed in my class.(!)

What did I then do? I just networked through these fora and finally found a senior from my school in residency, DESPITE having failed. So I killed 2 birds with one stone because now I plan to rotate there at the time that she will be a chief rez, and also she got me through this exam by recommending a colleague that teaches this exam well...Anyway (it cost me an arm.. and a leg---but I finally made it and now will likley get an IM rez...so there si 'a silver lining to every cloud...' email me personally at e n y c i t y at g m a i l for more help and tips on how to network with your seniors and colleagues as well...
