Default My step 1 experience - an encouragement for moms

I m a mom of a one year old. When she was one month old I started my prep during her naps time. I used to get a maximum of 2 hrs total per day after taking care of the baby and household chores that I would utilize to prep therefore my prep was very slow for the first seven months. I barely did first read of 6 subjects, pathology excluded. Then I flew to be with my parents for help so they helped with the baby and I studied well for next 4.5 months and took my exam. I did pathology only from Kaplan. Pathetic choice I know but I didn't have time for Goljan. Next I did a quick second read in 1.5 months. Then 1.5 months for first read of first aid then did uworld qbank 2200 questions in 1 month in which I averaged 72% in timed unused block practice and I did second read first aid simultaneously in same month. In last 15 days I was so tired I only reread difficult areas and took uwsa 1 & 2 in which I got 252 and 250 respectively. Didn't take any nbme I was so exhausted. Exam felt easier than uworld qbank or uwsa. Completed everything in time. Was expecting 240 since they say uwsa predicts +10 above the real score. But I guess 235 isn't a bad deal either. You can certainly do it

I felt that doing Kaplan really thoroughly covered neuro anatomy as well as general anatomy for me. Kaplan for all subjects gave me a base and first aid and uworld covered pretty much everything in the exam. So if I had revised first aid thoroughly second time, I m sure it would have helped some more. Best of luck. It is energy and time consuming but doable!
