Default Help needed!

I am an IMG from Pakistan. Appeared for my fcps 1 exam in November and cleared that. Now appearing for step 1 in may/june. I have done some studying during the course of my prep for part 1 like read kaplan lecture notes and first aid. But I am still left with few subjects like immunology/micro/pharm/biochem/biostats and behavioral sciences that I only did from first aid and not from some review book. Few people I have talked to said that I should forget everything now and do uworld and FA till my exam time. I just want to know will it be a good idea to first give atleast one reading before embarking on uworld and FA? Also I have read FA 2013. Do I still need to go overFA 2014?

I think that the amount of reading from books depends on your comfort level with those subects. The subjects you mention are very time-consuming ones as well. If you're not comfortable with biochem, for example, FA is not a good learning tool for this. UW may be okay, but you may become overwhelmed by the material you have to learn. I think some people learn well from UW only, but others struggle. I think you need to figure out what your learning style is.

One thing you can try to do FA and UW (in subject mode) while reading through good review books to consolidate at the same time, focusing on your weak areas. I wouldn't necessarily advocate for going through all of your review books before you do the UW questions, especially if your exam date is May/June. I think you may run out of time. Doing many questions is key, and having enough time to review your answers is very important if you're using UW to learn.

Whatever version of FA you use, I would say that it's not the number of times you read through that's necessarily important. It's using it effectively to consolidate your knowledge and point out areas that you don't know well. You may do it in one read, or, if you're like me, you may read certain sections over and over and over again.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your replies. You're right, its learning to use FA effectively that makes the difference. You have also stressed on the importance of doing the question banks carefully. That's very helpful. Thanks for the insightful comments
