Default Simple ways to remember virus structures

DNA Virus

Mnemonic: Pardon Papa As He Has Pox

Pardon = Parvo virus
Papa = Papilloma and Polyoma
As = Adeno
He = Hepadna
Has = Herpes virus
Pox = Pox virus

Points to remember:

1.All DNA virus are double stranded except Parvo
2. All DNA virus replicate in nucleus except pox
3. "Pardon Papa As" = Naked
4."He Has Pox"=enveloped
5.Herpes get their envelope from nuclear membrane
6.Pox and Hepa carry their own enzyme

(extra point if you want to remmber: Hepatitis B virus is incomplete strand and carries a Reverse Transcriptase activity)

RNA Virus

Mnemonic: Call Henry Pico Flo To Come Rightaway

Call = Calici virus
Henry = Hepevirus
Pico = Picorna virus
Flo = Flavivirus
To = Toga virus
Come = Corona Virus
Rightaway = Retro Virus

Points to Remember:

1.All +ve sense RNA are single stranded
2. Top 3 Call Henry Pico = naked
3.Bottom 4 Flo To Come Rightaway = Enveloped
4.All replicate in cytoplasm except retro
5.None carry their own enzyme except retro
6. All are icosahedral except corona (cOrOna = helical circular)
