In my opinion it is worth to do those live lectures. Read as much as you can, so you can ask everything that is not clear to the doctors, also make friends for future contacts and also for sharing resources, thats how you get lots of pdf books, pathoma, dit, they are very nice people, specially knowing that we all have the same goal in mind. F1 student visa will do for both kaplan and observership. Call kaplan for more help so you have the right answers from the right source.
Also talk to the kaplan medical advisors When you are attenDing the live lectures to help you with doubts on what to do on your prep. They make it personalized so take advantage of that.

Default I dont recommend

I dont strongly recommend live lectures for step 1.

Even i graduated from an average medical college in India.

I dint not even read the lecture notes and videos from Kaplan. But i do recommend that.

For step 1 you need three pillars 1.comprehensive book(lecture notes or brs physio, behavioural+hy anat+pathoma/goljan+pharmcards etc.) not all books from a series are good ,because its about the author

For eg, Linda Costanzo is amazing for physio..even Conrad Fisher has given a review in amazon recommending her text.
Suzzanne Barons Lange flash cards are great for biochem review
2. Review book ie) FIRST AID ,or Kaplan Medessentials
3.Qbank- Uworld,Kaplan,usmlerx

IMHO you can save time and money if you can study by yourself

Best of luck
