Help Freaking out.

Hey everybody. This is my first time here on this website and I really like it. Hopefully it will become a sense of comfort for me as I study for STEP 1.
I AM FREAKING OUT!!!
I have read through and made notes of the Kaplan books as well as First Aid. I have spent a lot of time on it to make sure I understand the concepts. But it seems like I have forgotten more than I have learned.
Now that I am done I will go back and hammer the notes and all the details into my thick head. I am thinking of doing on a system based way as opposed to per subject, but I don't know if that will work. I am thinking of doing so to keep myself motivated and to practice connecting all the information so I become better at answering tertiary questions. What do you guys think?
I plan on doing tons of questions including uworld, NBME, Kaplan qbanks.

The problem is that I feel like I have wasted too much time and keep regretting what I should have done differently. I am exhausted and unmotivated and always worried to a point where I start having massive panic attacks. My sleep has been disturbed and I am so out of it. I want to to get this over so bad.

I guess I am writing this to get some weight off my chest, as I have no one else to talk to. What do you guys think. What should I do? Any advice will be great. I feel like I am losing my mind and I need some comments to ground keep me grounded. Thanks in advance. And All the best!

Try to relax! There's an adage that "the race is not for the swift but for those who can endure". Step 1 is definitely a long arduous journey, and it's of utmost importance that you try to maintain a good frame of mind. You may need to set a sleep schedule and stick with it to ensure you get enough rest. Exercise clears my head; try to get even 30 mins of physical activity in if you think it can help you. Whenever you feel yourself starting to feel stressed out, it's okay to take a break, take some deep breath, meditate, pray or do whatever it is that calms your spirit.

Now about your studying...it seems like you've already put in a lot of work but feel that you are not seeing the rewards. It seems like you're also using a lot f resources; sometimes it's not the resources but how you use them. My suggestion would be for you to post a detailed study schedule, including the materials your using, when you're planning on taking the exam, what are your perceived strengths/ weaknesses, etc. Folks on this forum are really helpful and can give you specific suggestions to improve your studying if they get a better idea of what stage you are right now.

Again, try to stay clam and focused, and with hard work you will achieve your goals.

Thumbs Up Gearing up!

I agree to what heights has told you and I want to add that if you have not started doing questions then I suggest you start doing them as soon as you can.

Doing questions and seeing yourself that you can actually answer them is a great motivation at this time.

Step 1, in fact the whole process till match, is very emotinally draining.. so it's completly natural to feel this way..

do whatever u need to do, to get this out of your system..pik a fight, cry, work out on the treadmill till u drop.. whatever works for u..

Then tell urself, that it's ok to feel this way.

get the whole thing outta your system...

get back into the saddle...and start studying like crazy, u put in a lot of work, time to make it bear fruit...

read, retain...repeat...

and of course, u should pay heed to what the others have posted..

im just letting u know, it's ok to feel upset..as long as it pushes u forward in the end...

Default Start doing questions!

I feel you've read enough. You should start doing questions as soon as possible. I spent 4 months reading and watching videos for Step 1, and I felt it was a wasted time. It was not, you're building a simple base, but still that's not enough for the exam. The questions point out those stuff that you think you had no idea they are important, but they are! USMLE can be pretty picky, so a lot of questions are a must.

Thank you for the motivational replies. I am nearing the end of my reading and will start reviewing all the notes I made and test my self to see where I stand. I am worried that after all the effort I will come to realize that I didn't learn much. I think only when I start reviewing is when I will feel like I am learning. I will see and let you know. Thanks again.
