hey bunny i took my exam on 5th march too. And i used to get a mini heart attack everytime i woke up for the first few days. I missed some easy questions. I will never forgive myself for that Plus my paper had so many neuro anatomy questions with CT scans and everything!! I was a complete neurotic after the exam. Anyway good luck to everyone who's expecting their results. And to me too. InshaAllah it will be good few days left so why not just party till then!!

So you both would say that the exam was doable? Any recommendations for Anatomy besides Kaplan qbank, uworld, FA and a little high yield gross anatomy?

It was definitely doable. Slightly easier than u-world actually. some questions appeared really awkward. but they were in minority. There were some anatomy questions i didn't see in either Kaplan or world but again u can just make a guess on those few and move on. So i would say kaplan+FA+u-world is good enough for anatomy. because format of the real exam is so much like that of u world u just feel like you're doing u-world blocks at home.

Thanks Oncology_Freak!
Very encouraging of you
Please tell me how can you answer 7 blocks in a day, seems like a daunting task to me!

That's a good question actually. I was dreading this more than the exam itself. But surprisingly I had too much adrenaline in my system!! I was quite awake till the end. Use your breaks wisely and eat/drink something during every break. That charges you up. I think the exam stress makes you forget everything else and your mind is working fine till the end. So don't worry too much about this.

Thanks a lot for these words... it is encouraging.
Many people keep saying that it is definitely harder than UW and all NBMEs. Do you mind sharing your UW average and NBME scores.

@Curaco.. No doubt it was a tough test and there were questions that i had never seen plus had a bunch of neuroanatomy questions too. But I would still say it was fair. Not all the questions were really hard neither all were simple and straightforward. And uworld helps alot.
And i didn't take any NBME online. Did UWSAs only.

sleep well before the exam day
take sufficient food and water redbull or any other that works for u with you hydrate yourself every hour ....
dont try to read in ur break time so that u will be fresh for ur next block
its similar to uworld
so plan to do 7 random timed blocks of uworld thats it u have stimulated step1 exam all the best

i just went with my full prep after that because i had done everything i could and delaying would have been detrimental.

if the anatomy was definitely outside from Kaplan and FA what type of anatomy are you talking about could you give an example please? so we can revise that anatomy in another book.

Hey my paper didn't have tht many renal calculations. And everyone has a different question set but I guess u should just learn and memorise those formulas in FA. I did get 2-3 pharma calculation questions. Those formulas in FA arw good make sure u revise them before the test. And if you want to write them down before the test begins, then you can do that too.

Granuloma I can help you out. I gave mine in Feb. I found some of the nbmes tougher than the actual exam. The uwsa was wayyyy tougher than the exam
My advice is DO ALL YOUR NBMES.I had a few repeats.

Uworld will teach you a lot. That qbank is vital. I felt the actual exam was slightly easier than uworld, but then both have such different styles, its a bit tough to compare the 2.

Overall its not as scary as we expect it to be.

I scored 223 and thats because I made a lot of silly mistakes. I was really panicked. So just relax!!!!!

Anymore as let me know

In the actual exam most of the qs are long clinical vignettes, not so much in uworld. Obv the concepts the same in both

hey guys cleared my step 1 Alhamdullilah!! Score is in 230s. Did alot of stupid silly crazy mistakes which could have been easily avoided. I aimed a little higher but still not discouraged and happy i came out alive!!

Well, now that i have taken the exam i can answer your question.. whether step 1 was easier/harder than nbmes? well yes, some questions were definitely ALOT harder, but they tested the same stuff that was there in u-world and all the review books. Its a fair test guys. Honestly, i missed 13 gimme questions!! the easier ones that everyone else knew.(ofcourse there were a lot more i am only referring to my very lame mistakes) Don't stress out too much about the harder ones. OFCOURSE there will be hard questions. but what's more important is you make sure you don't forget the easier ones that are right there in FA+u-world. The length of the questions was definitely longer but that was not a problem, atleast not with me as i had practiced with timed, random mode in u-world. DO NOT STRESS OUT!! DO NOT PANICK!!

DO NOT PANICK!!
hey congrats (:
in ur previous post u mentioned u didn't do any nbme online.. so did u do all of them offline? also did u score the offline ones? how many ques u got wrong in the offline nbmes?

thanks & enjoy

Yes, i did ONLY NBME 7 and 11 offline. (Honestly, I am in a financial crisis and felt really guilty asking for money from my parents again and again.) And scored nearly 83-84% in both of them!! I wanted to do all of them offline.. but couldn't because of the time crunch. I started doing them in my last 15 days or so.. and explanations of NBME would take like 2 days!! So i gave up the idea altogether and picked up my FA and u-world notes. I think I should have started a little earlier. I did some NBME 15 questions too (but not the whole NBME) and found out that this newer NBME has longer stems. I would advice everyone to do it if you have time and patience to look up for the answers and explanations of NBMEs.

@curaco.. my u-world cumulative was 65% (all timed,random)

first off, congrats!

did u do the latest nbme -16??

is it worth doing that (being the newest and all) ?, or just sticking to the 7,11 12..15 etc is enough?

No more u world becoz you must be familiarize with questions and answers in uworld ... Read the notes u have made from uworld it would suffice ..,
Learn the mistakes and tea the concepts they are asking in nbmes ... See doing more questions is quite helpful but without learning from the mistakes it's useless to do nbmes ... Try to reduce the mistakes from 15 to 5 by reading fa + uworld notes read fa thoroughly it's only gona help you ... Then plan accordingly for nbmes online ... Offline is not going to assess your weaknes. So try to do at least one nbme online then revise your weak areas all the best man

10-15q wrong shows u have read big time but the nbme says otherwise.
Well I think not all the offline answers are right too.
First of all don't be depressed like I was.
Exams April end? Man do one nbme online immediately.
That would help big time since u would know ur mistakes and graph would tell u ur weak areas it helps big time. But read FA thoroughly then take nbme afterwards.
Most of nbme questions like 80% could be found in FA but hiding somewhere .
10-15 wrong per the current nbme score correlation puts u roughly 213-215. That is scoring like 77-79 percent correct. . Yes I mean it. By reducing it to 5 wrong per block puts u in .>245 that is scoring 85+ correct.

Am sure by now u would agree that some of the questions couldn't be answered by reading any book but would be answered by simple reasoning and common sense. Yea I missed some of those.
So at least get the 80% that could be seen in FA. Others uworld and Kaplan notes would help. Like mechanism of action of praziquantel that u encounted in the nbme Not in FA but in Kaplan.

Good luck.

hey i appreciate ur detailed rep.. yeah i agree doing online nbme will help but i just want to reinforce my knowledge from FA & uwsa & uw notes 1st bfr doing it as i can't bear getting depressed now.. yeah common sense isnt common after all haha but yes specially ethics i assume is just common sense..
MOA of praziquantel? in which nbme r u referring to? its increasing the Ca influx right? Man i just hate anti-microbials

hey granuloma i can relate.. i felt like i failed the exam.. i was so neurotic.. wasn't eating well.. couldnt sleep and went through exam experiences by previous takers like ALL the time. Everyone told me would that even matter now? Feeling nervous will NOT help u in any freaking way. Now that i have my scores, my 3 weeks PARTY HARD period is over and have to study for the next exam.. and i feel like i should have relaxed a bit more, prayed to God a little more and should not have worried. It is NORMAL to feel that way. Just chill. NOTHING is gonna change the outcome. So why not just relax before this little vacation of urs is over. Good luck for ur scores.

thanks oncology_freak, i know and i keep telling myself that...and then i come across people posting online about how they were doing well on NBMEs and then failed or did a lot worse on step 1. I guess that it doesn't even matter the questions i remember because they may be experimental...just need to wait and see

Praziquantel was in one of the for sure nbme 12 or 13. Was linked with microb so u were supposed to get it before u see it the drug was praziquantel.
U got the MOA right. Thumbs up.

I would say revise u-world. Revise those things that u forget easily. trust me i hate myself everyday for missing out those really easy questions!! never underestimate that. Sometimes u forget simple easy things. And yes revise and re-revise FA. That will get u to ur destination hopefully IA. I didn't do Rx but yes doing ALOT of questions is the key. Good luck.
