Thyroid The cause of enlarged Thyroid in Hashimoto Thyroiditis

What is the cause of enlarged thyroid gland in Hashimoto thyroiditis ? is it due to inflammatory cells infiltration or is it b/c of TSH?

Can TSH work on thyroid gland at all? is not there antibody against TSH receptors ?

Thanks

Idea! hashimoto and goiter

goljan says

Pathogenesis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis
(1) Cytotoxic T cells destroy parenchyma (type IV hypersensitivity).
• Initial thyrotoxicosis, eventual hypothyroidism
(2) Blocking IgG autoantibodies against che TSH receptor
• Decrease hormone synthesis; type II hypersensitivicy
(3) Antimicrosomal and thyroglobulin antibodies

• Develop as a result of gland injury; no causal role

Gross and microscopic features of Hashimoto's thyroiditis
(1) Enlarged, gray gland
(2) Lymphocytic infiltrate with prominent germinal follicles

(i think this is the cause of slowly increasing galnd size)
