Default Better Note Jotting Ideas

Hi guys, I have been jotting down the Kaplan notes and I realize it's taking too much time. My notes are almost as big as the Kaplan notes but they are better than the FA book when I compared them. Should I keep jotting the notes or just rely on FA as a revision book? Any advice will be appreciated.

I think reading the Kaplan notes and watching the videos are really helpful. It makes reading FA very easy since most of the concepts were already covered in the kaplan notes. This works for me though. Before doing Kaplan, FA was meaningless to me but now I understand most of the stuffs in FA.

Going for my exam in end of July. I'm finishing up biochem, and then have Path from Pathoma/Goljan for first two weeks of June. I'm starting to get pretty nervous about the exam coming up so fast. Is 5 weeks enough time to do questions and review?

Very good plan i would probably not finish this review on time. Instead of pathoma again(considering the fct that you did it twice before) I highly recommnd you to read goljan blue margin notes and listen goljan audios. It helped me alot.

Wow, you are really working hard! I recommend you do NBMEs so that you can know how well you are learning the materials. Thanks for posting this. It's encouraging. What can you say about pathoma after doing it twice? Is it improving your scores in pathology?

hey everyone,

so I am scheduled to write my exam at the end of july.

Having doubts about my performance. Found nbme 15 and 16 very tough. I would say second guessing is my worst trait. Also, had those questions where i went blank, not sure if that has occurred to anyone else.

I have completed kaplan, FA, pathoma and uworld. I seem to forget a lot of the material i read in kaplan. Any advice in regards to that?

thank you all in advance.

cheers

Hey Faith255,

I found nbme 16 tougher than 15. More trick questions in my opinion.
If you want a challenge, write nbme 16. Comparing to previous forms, I discovered these 2 forms more difficult. Maybe it varies from person to person.

Marzy simon, i'm pretty sure that with those scores, you'll attain 250.

Either way, a 240 is a great score and will land you many residencies unless you want to go into plastic surgery. Better off not delaying your exam unless you feel it is absolutely necessary.

Default calculators??

Hey guys!! I am also sitting for my exam at the end of this month. I was wondering if there was a calculator on the real exam since there isn't one for NBMEs. Thanks for all your help and good luck to all!!!

The only way to get info to stick in your mind is active repetition. I go through the Kaplan vids, and then go back through the LN the next morning with my highlighters through the same topic, and then do the same thing for FA. So, my first pass is actually three mini-passes. I also do flashcards for pharma and micro...because there's just no other way.

Bottom line: review, review, review.

You're right! Review, review, review is the method. It worked while I was studying Micro. and Pharm. too.

I will say almost everybody gets low scores for the first time while doing questions. Do not be discouraged by your early low scores. I will also suggest that you use 3 different question banks on each subject. Your grades will gradually increase block by block on that same subject. The idea here is to repeat all the concepts in a particular subject until you master them. Then, you can proceed to the next subject. Again, do not be discouraged!

Post Nbme 16

Hey guys, what do you think of NBME 16? Just did it today and I'm not sure what to think of the score, is it an overestimate? Is it a good predictor?

I liked NBME16 a lot, but the curve is better compared to NBME 15, meaning you can get 2-3 more questions wrong and get the same score as NBME 15.

How much did you score? When is your exam?

7 is nice... if you have time take 15 and 7 to proof where you are.

I think you should keep on doing the UWorld and do it at least twice. Whatever new concepts you learn will be added to what you already learnt while doing kaplan. No knowledge is lost. Also, take diagnostics b4 the final exam.

Uworld is essential for this exam. Very good hgh quality questions. But if you write the exam on july 2nd you will not have time to do it twice. To do it most effectively with annotations on FA you will need at least 45 days

I did that thinking its a smart thing to do. Its a huge time sink dude. (I'm assuming dude) lol. Instead of writing anything during the kaplan lectures, just play them at 1.5 speed and listen as actively as possible.

If you do that, you'll save a TON of time. I'm talking like 3 weeks at least. That will give you more time to do the crunch work like going over uworld incorrects, doing pathoma vids etc. You should be going through first aid more than any other book. Even the stuff in uworld and pathoma, try to connect it all to first aid so you don't have to shuffle through a million different thing a couple weeks out from the exam. I haven't taken it yet, I write it in two weeks

Good luck!

if its your first time going through uworld I'd say do 2-3 blocks of uworld random timed in the morning. Go over the incorrects from those (Set a limit of 5 hours for this) After Uworld watch the pathoma section you're going to do that day at 1.5 speed while following along in first aid. That will cover all the pathology for that specific system.

You now have: Pharm, anatomy/physiology, embryology left for that section in first aid.

Read, and memorize. Honestly though, I've been studying for a few months and I haven't been able to complete an entire section of first aid along with full blocks of uworld and pathoma in one day. Give yourself two days per section in first aid. That way you won't skip over information by accident because you won't be going 100 mph. Good luck

Guys can someone help me for pathology? My patho scores in uworld isnt that good and i am worried about that considering the fact that real exam has lots of pathology questions. Ive done pathomaX3 +Kaplan pathology+Goljan audio. I didnt read Goljan patho . Do i have to?

My aim is to be able to answer %90-95 of patho questions correct. But recent nbme and uworld scores say ı can only answer 75-80 of them correct.

Please help!!!!

I don't know if combining Pathoma and Goljan's Rapid Review will help, but I will advice that you should revise pathoma once more to see if it will improve ur score in path.
