Question lac operon system important/unimportant

HI i was watching the biochem video lecture 2007 and it has lac operon system in it, so i am using 2010 book for kaplan but this book doesn't have lac operon system, probably it is only in 2007 books. so i want to ask you if it is not important anymore to do lac operon or what?
