Help starting from scratch!!!!

Hi everyone there,

It is a great thing this forum exists so that people with troubles like me can get help
so here is the thing..

I am an IMG with poor background knowledge planning to take the USMLE step one exam next year.

I finished collecting the books needed and it is about time to start studying, but I started to freak out because I know I have a prior knowledge problem and there are too many pages to be covered and I'll be working and studying at the same time.

So I want some advice about the anticipated hardships and pitfalls also what subjects to start with and what subjects need special emphasis.

Other helpful techniques of studying and memorization

Your help is invaluable to me

& thanks in advance

Did you say you're going for step 1 next year? You have ALOT of time, don't worry. Once you start studying for steps, you'll realize how interesting it is. Kaplan notes are so well written that at times you are surprised at how you missed some of the basic concepts. All you have to do is to start studying. So don't think about what you know already, think about you are going to learn and give it a start, you will be just fine!

As for study techniques and stuff, take a few minutes out and browse this forum, even yesterday someone asked the same and was directed to the write thread by the staff, you are not alone. Best of luck!

Thumbs Up Get on it!!!

I haven't taken any step yet, going for 1 in April, but I have seen people who weren't good at medschool at all, but they did great on USMLE. The good thing about USMLE is that you can kind of asses your prep and then act accordingly. See you can take NBME, if your prep is not good, you can always postpone your exam, which too is a date of your choice. So get on it, start studying, you will do great.

Do go through all the success stories on this forum, people have been through all of this before us and came out as winners!!! (I feel so emotional right now! )
