Unhappy My exam result 91/216 ... Very sad

My exam result is released 91\216

I am depressed and don't know what to do

I did easy mistakes in exam and even change some answers from correct to wrong.

preparation time 6 month

I studied from Kaplan notes JUST anatomy, biochemistry, high yield behavioral, and first aid.

also used the internet webpath ..... etc

did UWorld complete (55%)

did kaplan q bank 40 blocks with average (61)

did NBME 6 209 3 weeks before exam

then got in my week areas and FA

NBME 7 236 five days before exam

exam questions really hard not easy as form 7 .

I am IMG and have green card

what are my chances in the match my dream is to be a surgeon

I don't know what to do now with this low score .

WHAT ABOUT SCORE RECHECK IS IT USEFUL OR NOT ?

look man, 1st congrats for this decent score. a lot of people will die to get this score. you can get surgery with this score if you do well in step2 and work on your apps. about your NBME 6 vs 7 and the real exam, you can clearly see that the exam had more of your weak areas. gl

It sounds like you had bad luck and caught a difficult exam! I'm so sorry - that must be very disappointing... It's not very low, and although it is closer to the mean score of unmatched independent general surgery applicants than it is to that of the matched ones, those two scores were not so far apart. According to the 2009 'charting outcomes', you still have about a 25% chance of matching your surgery residency with that score! Not too bad - a 245/99 would have only given you a 35% chance. So now - what can you do to make up for your bad luck on Step 1? Great CK score, good LOR's and clinical experience, good research, develop connections, apply to the right programs... I think you could do it. Good luck!

Where did you come up with the 'charting outcomes'?

I wanted to know for some other specialties other than IM/Pedia/Family.

Ex. EM.

lol... sometimes people make me laugh.

a score above 210 is a good score. The average grades that most students get is around the 200-220 range... there is a 20 point deviation.. So your score is good none the less. Having a 216 is good for most specialties... We all want that 99 but hey, theres nothing wrong with a 91... your score isn't anywhere near bad lol, just talk to some of the people who got a 200 lol.. now tht would suck.

im going to be really open here.. but thats one of the problems with these usmle forum sites.. No one knows what is a good score.. average people will never post there grades on these sites, while the people who get the greatest of scores post and show off.. which creates this perception that everyone is doing much better than what most people probably are. People need to start being carefull as to who there audience maybe.. Because this affects everyone personally to such a degree that it's almost a life or death situation for most people trying to get into medicine . A person with a very high score doesn't mean that they will be a better doctor than a person who scored average on the usmle.... Plus, most people who post that they got a very high score... are probably lying.. Of course there are people who do get high score, i have several friends who have scored 240+. But on the internet... You should take everything with a grain of salt.

Congrats on the good score, your well on your way 2 be an excellent doc.. Specially with potential to get a 230+.. all the more reason 2 surprise your attendants during your clerkship

Are you crazy? Thats a very nice score! I asked around many doctors working there, one of them even interviews the residents. They all said that scores are a major factor and anything above 90 is a really good score!!! Since surgery is tough to get, you can improve your CV with USCE and research.
So congrats! Its a pretty good score.

Congrats kemoo. Its indeed a good score but what scares me is the difference between your nbme 7 and real score.I also got 99 in nbme 6 and waiting for result but this nbme-real exam difference scares the hell out of me.You did nbme 7 online?

yes i did both online but nbme 6 is more difficult than nbme 7 in my opinion

i score 209 in nbme 6

and 236 in nbme 7

second thing i have anxiety from the exam which affect me also during exam i did very easy mistakes

dont worry i am sure that you will get 99 and please tell me ok.

wish you the best

and i still think that nbme exam is very important and highly predict score

but my case is different .

i am learning from my mistake most important thing that you should be relax during the exam and the first choice is correct try to avoid changing answers
