Idea! step 1 without kaplan notes and videos ?

hi,
I am an IMG , an average student .Right now I have more than 7months for step 1 .Wish to get 9/250+ in first attempt
But I don't have much money to spend for kaplan coaching .
Is it a good idea to prepare for step 1 without kaplan coaching ?
I have FA book .Now I am using FA and wikipedia together.planning to finish FA 2 or 3 times ,and thinking about getting good qbanks to do it after completing each topic in FA .
is this a good method .please suggest me some good books too.

THANKS

Yes. In my opinion, its good to build your foundation with Kaplan if your aim is 250+.........and Wikipedia, although a good quick reference, would definitely make you stray from USMLE orientation if solely used with FA.

You don't need to take the Kaplan course.
Try to get the Kaplan books and videos on Ebay or from friends.....

My advise......
Read Kaplan notes for all subjects except Pathology.
For Pathology read Goljan or Pathoma.
Annotate all imp extra info into FA.
Then go over FA as many times as you can, along with UWorld (very IMP!).
Take a few NBME's to gauge your prep.
If you score 250+ on 2 NBME's..............That's it ...sit for the exam.......

I'm going to go ahead and answer some of the questions which may pop into your head as soon as you see my post.........

1.Do I have to watch all the videos?
A. No. I'd recommend Behavioral, Pharm and Biochemistry.

2. Isn't everything you need to know already in FA?
A. Well.....yeah...most of it is. But the problem is you'll need a solid foundation of knowledge to understand the points in FA. But once you equip yourself with all the concepts, I believe FA is an indispensable tool when it comes to revision.

3.How many times should I do Kaplan?
A. One. After that concentrate on your annotated FA.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask. Glad to help.

you can use other resources like BRS physiology,BRS behavioral science ,pathoma as an alternative to kln.Not everyone who passes step1 uses kaplan.

Hi
You may buy on kaptest.com. This is the official kaplan ' s website. I called them and they sent me my books 3 day later. Good luck.

I don't know, because I bought it with Kaplan CenterPrep , but you may call them and ask about how much .Other option is on amazon.com, but I think the books are copies too.
