Default Question about Osteomyelitis

I am aware that the most common cause of Osteomyelitis is S. Aureus, and that a lot of emphasis is put on Salmonella being the causative agent in patients with Sickle Cell.

But after talking to a few physicians, and listening to various step reviews, I keep getting mixed information. Some will say that even in sickle cell patients, S. Aureus is the most common cause, and others will say it's Salmonella. I even pulled up research papers that reported that S. Aureus is still the #1 cause regardless of sickle cell.

If this question is on the step...what is the appropriate answer? Does it all depend on the wording of the actual question? Or will they give us a gram stain to differentiate?

I just don't want to miss an easy question that I know and understand simply because everyone has their own opinion on the matter.
