Warning! Guidance... HELP PLEASE!

My situation is the following...

I currently live in the states but I was accepted into med school in Colombia. From what I've researched, to study med school abroad gives you better preparation, more practice, knowledge, etc. But I want to know to know if I'm making the right decision... the language isn't the problem being that I'm bilingual, or even the "starting college" dilemma considering I already have a degree in graphic design (yes I know, it doesn't relate at all). I'm honestly terrified to do this because it's what I've always wanted to do but was just always scared to, its just a big responsibility, a lot of time and sacrifice involved, but I think I'm ready to face it head on...

My questions are these...
-should I study abroad or in the states?
-how difficult is it to get the ecfmg certification after I receive my diploma from med school in colombia and how long does it usually take?
-how does one prepare for the exams and are they really that difficult?
-how much of a guarantee do I have that I'm gonna be able to do my residency back here in the states after I receive my diploma?

Any suggestions and feedback are welcome. I honestly need some guidance, I hope to hear from someone who's been through this whole process so that I know what I need to prepare myself for.

Thanks!

States should be first choice, Caribbeans the 2nd, everywhere else 3rd.

-how difficult is it to get the ecfmg certification after I receive my diploma from med school in colombia and how long does it usually take?

ECFMG certification depends on you. How long you take to give your Steps 1, 2 (Ck/CS), 3.

-how does one prepare for the exams and are they really that difficult?

Exam preparation is based on reading Board Review books (ex. Kaplan, BRS, HY etc.) exams would be considered the hardest of your medical school career. (some people will argue this)

-how much of a guarantee do I have that I'm gonna be able to do my residency back here in the states after I receive my diploma?

International Med Graduate residency match rate is hovering around 44% this year. It will steadily decline because apparently there are going to be more American Grads (which are preferred).

Have you done pre-med in the states? If so write the MCAT.. apply to MD Schools, if you dont get in apply for DO schools (No offense for my fellow DO students/grads), and if you can't go to either of those, then Caribbeans is the best place.

Hope that helps!
