Warning! Img - usmle step one study plan help!!!

Hey everyone!

I am a U.S born medical graduate who has obtained a degree from India.
I am now preparing to take the USMLE Step 1 and starting my preparation June 1st, 2014.

I'll admit that my basic sciences are NOT strong at all so I do plan on taking my time and scoring 250+ on this exam!

I have decided to study via First Aid 2014 + Kaplan lecture books and videos following ZumZum's method (with the substitution of Kaplan books with BRS physiology, High Yield Neuroanatomy, Goljan or Pathoma (Need held deciding!!), MAYBE Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple, and Conrad Fischers book of medical ethics) EXCEPT I will be taking the 6 week live Kaplan lectures from October 13th-November 30th. After the lectures I will probably just stick to Questions and my FA until the End of February.

In Summary:
Study Plan:

Week No. 1 (Drink as much beer as I can because i'll need my braincells for the next few months!)

(Starting June 1st)
Week No. 2 and 3 (Anatomy)

Week No. 3, 4, and 5 (Physiology)

Week No. 6, 7, and 8 (Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Genetics)

Week 9 (Kaplan Qbank)

Week No. 10 and 12 (Microbiology & Immunology)

Week No. 13, 14, and 15 (Pathology)

Week 16 (Kaplan Qbank)

Week No. 17, and 18 (Pharmacology)
Follow the same Anatomy scheme.

Week No. 19 (Behavioral Sciences)

Week No. 20-26 KAPLAN LIVE LECTURES

Week No. 27-35(or 38) UWORLD, Various other Q banks and NBME examination prep

Then take my Exam.

What do you guys think????
Any Suggestions? Changes? Inputs?

Other questions:
Pathoma or Goljan?
Do I use Clinical Microbiology made ridiculously simple or Kaplan notes instead?

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!

I am also starting my studying on June 1st! And don't really have a good basic knowledge either. Planning to take the exam in January 2015. I am using:
Kaplan lecture notes (and watching the videos) + Qbank
Usmle World
First Aid 2014
Goljan BRS & Pathoma
BRS Physiology
High Yield Neuroanatomy
High Yield Embryology
Micro Made Ridiculously Simple

I am basing the order of the subjects based on the Kaplan video order. and doing Kaplan q-bank as I watch the videos

I am studying part-time for step 1, since I have work, family, and school at the same time

Good luck to all of us.

If anyone can provide further comments on things I can add or remove, that would be great! Thanks

Is HY Embryo needed? and Goljan, BRS, and Pathoma seems like overkill to me.

I have heard from other people, HY Embr is very good resource that people use incase they don't understand something in Kaplan. Its short (can finish in a few days) and I have been told if I have time I should read it. I am using Pathoma as my base to help me better understand the detail of Goljan textbook. Reading Goljan on the side of my studying (since its a very large textbook). I plan to read Goljan once and then go over it again, but only read the side dot points. BRS Physiology, is a replacement for kaplan, since its a must have for USMLE step 1 physiology. If I have enough time I will try to do and kaplan.

Hope this helps, and please let me know what you think.

Yeah i'm pretty much going to follow your example, if Embryo gets tough for me i'll definitely check out BRS Embryo. As for physiology, I have my 5th edition copy from abroad so it only cost be like 13 dollars. But I came to find out that the U.S version is in COLOR but is around 40 bucks lol. Is it sad that I want the color version instead? lmao

Haha...I am the same, I just like the book to be in colour. I did not notice that the 2 versions where not the same. I just check my BRS Physiology and thank god its in colour.

But you know, I am sure the one you have is fine, if worse comes to worse and you really don't like it when you are reading it, and want the pictures in colour you can always just order a copy.
