Question First read system wise?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and so for the USMLE preparations. I'm just going to start step 1 preparation. I was wondering whether I should start preparing system wise or not. Apart from Microbiology, Biochemistry and Behavioral Sciences, I could divide rest of the subjects into different systems, though some topics from some subjects remained excluded which I'm planning to do separately. For example, if I start with Cardiovascular System, I'll do anatomy of the heart & vessels first, then physiology of the same, then pathology and drugs at the end. And the same way for the other systems. Now my question is that "would it be wise to prepare from the beginning to the end this way?". Has anyone tried studying this way?

Thanks noothan. And sorry for not searching it. As I said, I'm new to this forum. Talking about the threads you sent, I'm still confused after reading it. I'm thinking exactly the same what Dr.Sidd has written in the end. I also believe in going through all the readings the same way I go through first. So I was thinking of starting like that. But looking at the discussion in that thread, I don't think I'll get any particular answer for this. Anyways, let me know if you have something to say. I think I'll start system wise only. As Dr. Sidd had written, it would help me revise the things I read even in the first reading itself, and may be the output would be more efficient. Still, opinions from anyone is most welcome. Thank you.

dude

I too am gonna suggest to go system-wise [in ur case ] . ima more comfortable doing subject wise than system wise .....years of practise like...dont wanna try a new way now ......but if u r comfortable with it ....then it should be effective

Anyways all Qbanks have the options to do questions system wise !! therefore there wont be any probs doing Questions ,consolidating concepts or covering the qbank !

But do find Qbook that present Qs system wise [ i dont know any to suggest ]
or else subscribe to both kaplan and uworld qbanks.........kaplan along with ur studies ...so as to do it side by side with the portions u cover

anyways good luck dude
hope i helped

Thanks again for your helpful advice. Yes, regarding Qbanks, I'm planning to go through them exactly the way you said. Will be doing Kaplan during my 2nd reading though and not the first. No Qbook will help me in this study plan, at least in the first reading. So I'm thinking of doing a Qbank (other than Kaplan and UW) during my first reading which I'm thinking of using at the end of each system. May be I won't be able to finish this Qbank as it will take longer than the period I've planned for first reading. But I'll at least use it to avoid my first reading being boring without questions.

Well, about the system wise plan, even I've never used this method in the med school. Even I used to go through subjects separately. But those were the different days. Right now I've forgotten a lot from all the step 1 subjects I learned in med school (I'm a graduate (1 year) and not a med school student). But somehow I feel that this method will help me make the forgotten concepts clear even faster. But I'm not sure about it. So lets just go with the heart and hope it works.
