Smile Got my score: 226/97

So, I got my score today..., exactly on the 3rd Wednesday after taking the test: it's 226/97!
I personally think I could have done better but I'm an "old" IMG and I'm pretty excited that I passed in the first attempt as I had some major drawbacks here and there.

My background:
Graduated over 10 yrs ago..., yeah 'old', even if I don't feel that old. Completed residency in Europe and have been working in Europe for over 10 years in a University setting hospital, so I'm used to study, keep up with the newest stuff and so on, just not used to preclinical material AT ALL.

Studying:
Started in October 2010 - March 2011 (6 months).
Average 6 hours/day - 5 days a week. I have a family to take care of, husband, kid, etc. so no weekend study or afternoon study for me. Plus, I've been pregnant the whole time, did the test being in my 8th month (Shock..., yeah, it's doable!) Some major drawbacks because of personal issues which resulted in less studying hours than wanted.

Materials:
Kaplan lecture notes. Went through them twice. For Pathology I did Goljan, although I'm not a big fan of this book actually (I know everybody seems to be, just not the right format for me I guess); for micro did CMMRS (love that book!).
Did FA the last 3 weeks (had been taken notes in them during my second Kaplan LN review).
Last day before the test I did review some histology slides online and some radiology images for Anatomy. Easy stuff that I wanted to keep in mind and I didn't want to 'study' that day but take it easy and give my brain a bit of rest before the big day.

UW Q bank: self paced, tutor mode. 61% first time pass. Afterwards reviewed again some of the Q I got wrong but not too many because of time issues.

UWSE1: 490/216 (3 weeks before)
UWSE2: 520/224 (1.5 weeks before)

Did not do NMBE or anything else.
Didn't sleep the day before the test..., I wanted to badly but just couldn't. I didn't feel nervous but I guess I must have been. Got like 3 hours of sleep that night, tops.

Day of the test:
arrived like an hour early, I had a longer drive with rush hour being around that time so I decided to be on the safe side and leave earlier.
Staff at Prometric was fantastic; easy check in, just as explained here and on their site. Very professional. No issues with the equipment (PC, headphones).
My plan was to take 3 blocks and then the first break but I couldn't, so I took 2, took a break and had a fruit, took 2, had lunch break, took 2, went to stretch my legs, took 2, snack and then 1 block + the questionnaire. Had enough time for my breaks, usually short except for my 'lunch break' (ate some sandwiches and fruit and drank a bit of water). I have to say, the time after lunch is the worst..., and no caffeine for me (and there's no vendors machine close to the site I went)..., got really tired but then it got better after the next break.

Congrats!!! That's an awesome score! You nailed it!

I really don't know if being an "old" grad took much from your score (doesn't seem like it), and doing all of this while having a family must be really really hard and if we add onto that a baby in the sac...ufffff...how did you manage?

I don't know how you did it. You're a SURVIVOR!! In a few you'll have a tiny baby that will congratulate with every breath. Good job!

I didn't do kaplan notes for microbiology. I started like the first 4 pages and was like... what?! I need another book! Then I decided to order CMMRS. I love that book! I think between CMMRS and FA it's enough but definitely don't miss out FA as they have some nice useful graphs in the microbiology section. Also, I did the Immuno part of Kaplan LN along with FA.

Also, I should mention that I've been working in Infectious Diseases, too, so some of the stuff was obviously easier for me, but once again, the clinical stuff was for sure easier for me, not so much the laboratory part.

Thank you very much for your message! It seems first message I see without meaning "I don't care about your problem with your family or kids". Today for example I spent half day in school for solving some problem... I'm sitting right now and study explanations in my failed online Kaplan questions, but anyway that problem about school also present and flying in my head... My score increasing but not fast as I want...
Congrats again!!!

Good luck with your score.
After the test? I just felt relieved that it was over!!! Didn't think too much about the test at all for like 3 days and then I sort of started panicking and worrying but tried to stay calm as it was done anyway and nothing could be changed at that point.

Thanks! Yeah, I know..., I "lost" days preparing because my son got chickenpox, because you still have a live and need to take care of errands and whatever, the usual stuff, but that's just the way it is.

Default Congratulations!!!

I know this post is a few months old but I'm new to this forum. I just have to say congratulations and thank you for the inspiration. I had my baby during my last year in med school and now I'm trying to study for Step 1 with a 6 month old. Needless to say not going as quickly as I hoped and I've been getting quite stressed. Reading this post has reaffirmed that it is possible. Thank you!!!

And now, judging by how much time has passed, I also want to congratulate you on your new addition to the family Wishing you much happiness and the best of luck in all to come!!!

Hi! Don't know if you still need it but try bookdepository.com (or bookdepository.co.uk which is the same). They have FREE worldwide delivery. I'm pretty sure they deliver to India as well, but check. This company is great. I order all my books from there...so much cheaper than amazon with the free delivery. Worth a shot! (and no, I'm not affiliated with them in anyway, just a very pleased customer )

You can do it! It'll take some more time, but you can. I had my baby (after tons of complications I have to say..., I'm prepared for Obstetrics... LOL) and now I'm studying for step 2 with a toddler at home and a 2.5 month old.... it gets frustrating but I can't loose my hope. I hope to do the step 2 CK in 2-3 months!
