Default Is MoA, Clinical Use, Toxicity enough for STEP1 Pharm?

Hi everybody,

Forgive me if this question has already been answered elsewhere. I looked and did not find it but I have a feeling it must be somewhere.

I am currently starting my 4th of 5 total pre-clinical semesters at my school and as such I'm beginning to think about STEP1 preparation and what study strategies I will use. From reading around online it seems that most people approach pharm by memorizing the Mechanism of Action, Clinical Uses, and Toxicity for each drug in the First Aid book. At my school we are expected to know a lot more (routes of administration, pharmacokinetics/dynamics, contraindications, and other miscellaneous info).

I have been making tables of drugs throughout my studies and I've decided to combine them all into one "master pharmacology table" which will integrate all the clinical uses for a single drug in one place rather than, for example, talking separately about each use of propranolol in basically every chart I have ever created. I also want to integrate the information from the First Aid book and Kaplan videos into my chart. I'm then going to create Anki notecards for each drug using this table.

My question is: How much information about each drug are we expected to know for the USMLE step 1? Can I leave out "routes of administration", or "pharmacokinetics", for example? Do we need to know half-lives, site of metabolism/excretion, etc?

Thank you for any guidance!
