Star Got MY Step 1 Result: 228/98

I am an IMG presently undergoing residency trainning in internal Medicine in my home country.
I took my Step 1 on the 30th March this year and got my score exactly three weeks after - 228 / 98

Here is an account of my journey to that score:

Passive preparation: 6 months - Characterized by reading USMLE stuff occasionally (less than 4 hrs per day on average)

Active preparation: 8 weeks (Spent 6-10 hrs per day on USMLE step 1 materials)

Materials used: Kaplan Series mainly (Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, QBook and Qbank (Offline)
Also used Firstaid 2004 edition (That's what I could get from a friend)

Could not subscribe to Uwolrd because they refused to accept my Mastercard.

I eventually settled for USMLE Consult but could not practice more than 35% of the questions in their Qbank because of time constraint.

As at the time I was going for the exam I felt I was not adequately prepared but decided not to postpone it because I was to write another major exam (related to my residency here) in May.

I therefore thank God for that score (despite inadequate preparation) even though it is not perfect -99% is everyone's dream.

I hope this will encourage someone.

Well, I am a Nigerian and presently reside in Nigeria. I hope to move over to the US soon for residency in internal medicine with cardiology as the subspeciality on my mind.
What about you, where are you from?

Thanks.
I think the important thing is to stick to whichever you want to use and read it through and through. I never read Goljan. I just naturally fell in love with Kaplan Pathology and I read through twice before I started practising Kaplan Qbook. Also remember that Firstaid is a must-read.

Whatever deficiency there is in any of the books will be taken care of when you start online Qbank - either Uworld or Kaplan Qbank or both depending on how much time you have and your financial status.

Please don't be scared. Just believe in youself while you trust God for the best. Step 1 is just like many of the other exams you have written in the past in which you did well.

Just try as much as possible to put in your best. God will take care of the rest.
Cheers.

FA is one material that occupies a pride of place in ones preparation for USMLE. It has to be read over and over again. Of course there is nothing against its use after the first read of kaplan.

Important facts/concepts from other sources should be jotted into it.
