Hi, ikrimachoudry:

I read the previous post and find it helpful. Can you explain why ATGCAA --> ATGTAA is the coding strand?

Thanks a lot!

u welcome

1) WE HAVE TO CONSIDER EVERY STRAND AS CODING IF THEY DONT MENTION ANYTHING
USUALLY THEY SAY *TEMPLATE* BUT IF NOT THEN ITS CODING

JUST LIKE EVERY STRAND IS WRITTEN FROM 5` to 3` END

ITS CONVENTION TO TAKE EVERY STRAND AS CODING UNLESS SPECIFIED
BY NMBE

I think its option 3.

CTTAAG --> 5' GTTAAG 3'
3' CAAUUC 5'

hence reading UAA which is a nonsense mutation

It is Option A

The change in option 3 is G→C, and it is not in the AUU that you qouted...

Sooo, the stop codon is there already, not an example of nonsense mutation
