Kaplan Medical Kaplan CenterPrep worth it or not?

hi every one .. here's my first ever post ..

I am planning to take step 1 by the end of this year.. I am confused on whether i should join the Kaplan CenterPrep or not .. ?
Let me tell you... I was more like an average student during all my years in med school.. and I do NOT think i can study more than 8 hours at home. and I am yet to start my studies...

having said all this.. do u guys think i should join the center prep or I can stick to "study at home" ?

I would really appreciate the opinion of those fellows who joined the center prep... do u think its worth spending all this money or not..?

regards

Although I haven't attended the course myself but I know people who have and they told me that it depends on your learning style. Many were disappointed because they were shown the same videos that are avaiable in the market and they had to stay there for many many hours and they used to be tired afterwards when they got home so they could not revise anything and ended up with a bad score. However the people who can learn better by listening to stuff and can sit in a classroom for many hours at a stretch completely love this course...Again, it depends on your learning style...

That's a good idea. Well if you do decide to go to the kaplan center, post ur experience here as well. I still haven't decided whether I should go or not.

Hi I am attending Kaplan Prep course and I'm completely agree with eesfee. It really depends on your learning style. For me, it turned out to be a great decision because I had problems studying at home or library. I could finish preparing for step 1 in five months. I am waiting for my step 1 score so I can't tell you much about the benefit of taking this course. Anyway I am not advertising Kaplan here, this is just my personal experience. Many students can get 99 and they even didnt read any Kaplan books.

I posted my step 1 experience here :

Summary of My USMLE Step 1 Journey

Hope it helps you making decision.

hi drSIck u are already sick how can you prepare for and take steps?
anyway in ma opinion whether some one should apply for center prep or not totally depends on person
1)if you find it difficult at home to concentrate then u should really go for cnt prep. cuz attention deficit will be less and u will gain more in less time @ video lectures

2)but if you have enough time and tempo at home without any kinda disturbance and having videos of kaplan notes @ pc then IMHO you are going to waste your money and time @ center prep

i have al videos and i m IMG and live in ma uncle home
i m going to join kaplan for live lectures but not for center prep

Final decision upto you

@ harlesmd... thanks for the advise and feedback ,,and also for sharing ur much helpful experience.. I think if i dont fined a good study partner in neighbourhood, i will have to opt for centre prep...

@ikrima... well how can u say that ... i might b 'sick for' success.. like u know people are home-sick or luv-sick for that matter ..

anyway thanks for ur helpful feedback ... hope live prep works for u ..

Post Kaplan USMLE 1 prep

Hi guys,
I am sorta confused whether to take a prep course or not. But, in order to avoid the burn out syndrome of self studying, I am planning to take the Kaplan USMLE 1 7 week live prep course, $3399.
They have a package of $4,399, which includes 7 week live + 3 month center prep + 4 mth Kaplan Q bank. I have no idea about center prep, I tried calling Kaplan but I am not convinced by their answer.
Do you think if Centerprep is worth it? Or should I just go with 7 week live lectures and save myself the money?
Any suggestion on this one?

Hi docji, I am completely agree with drciri....
I just want to add some point that if you take Kaplan Prep Center in US, you can arrange your study schedule so you can do volunteer work or even observership while you're preparing for the exam. But you need extra hardwork to manage your time wisely.
I think the Live Lecture is good and if money is not a factor for you, I recommend you to take it. Good luck

Thanks for ur suggestions guys. So Center prep is a library set up by Kaplan. Do they have tutors available there in case if u need help with a certain concept or for any Qs?
I am from Toronto. And it takes me 45 mins to go to the nearest Kaplan Center. I can study much efficiently in the near by library which is a 5 min walk from my house. So in that case it seems that if I just stick with 7 week live and Q bank, it should be good enough.
