Smile my IMG 240/99 experience

Study time:
6-7 months (5-9 hours a day depending on my mood...but the last month or two months I was doing probably over 12 hours a day)

3-4 months - Kaplan books & videos - did them once but very thoroughly

Then I took NBME 5 which is really hard and discouraged me..which is good cuz that's what a slacker like me needs...I got a 196 on that but it let me know what my weaknesses were and so I reviewed the Kaplan books and my notes over 1 month on just my weaknesses..at that point u think everything is ur weakness...but just focus on ur lowest score cuz those actually do turn out to be ur lowest scores on the actual test :S

2 months - uworld (Did it once..but I dissected the crap out of it) wrote all my uworld answers into my first aid..this was the first time I even opened my FA..I did uworld assessment 1 got a 242 (uworld assessments are way easier then NBME 5,6,7 and in my case they overestimate)
uworld avg:70%

1 month - did DIT ...its awesome ..totally recommend it..so many questions came straight out of that guy's notes..but DIT took me way longer then the recommended 15 days ..i think i spent 25 days on that cuz i was also reading my FA notes alongside it and he goes really fast...out of everything I would highly recommend DIT ..it really lets u focus on the memorizing the details cuz at that point my concepts were much more clear but i was forgetting details that cant be understood ... in between this month I did (every week i tested myself)
NBME 6-235
uworld assessment 2 -252 (way over-predicted my score)
NBME 4-249

Then just read FA again for 5 days ...basically just freaked out for 5 days before my exam

Day Before:
Didnt do anything ...prayed A LOT:sorry:...almost threw up ..its normal ..couldn't sleep..took half of my granny's Alprax and finally went to sleep! if u have a sleeping problem seriously just take an afternoon slot for ur exam I wish I had..

Exam Day:
1st, 2nd, 3rd blocks were easy I was like "are they seriously asking me this?" spoke too soon cuz 4th block was pretty tough...took my longest break then for 20mins..ate a chocolate had a sip of redbull...washed my face (put vanilla face cream on ) and went back in more encouraged and refreshed...5th block was again realllllly hard lol...took another break..repeated the above steps...then went in for the kill ...6th was k ...7th was easy...but at that point i just wanted it to end ...

The test is really fair..hard but fair...do ur ANS well people!! do cell biology...i just DIT stuff and whatever i could rem from undergrad which wasn't much...Do path well...Do Goljan...but don't obsess over Goljan once is enough...at the end just look at his side notes and pictures! especially his pictures! don't waste time listening to murmurs..case history was enough for me to figure it out...i had no biochemistry question maybe 5...behavioral science is important...know the equations inside out...know genetics really well also...

Hopefully it was helpful...but at the end of the day at any point in ur study when u don't know what book to grab onto...FOCUS ON YOUR WEAKNESSES..don't keep doing the stuff u find easy ...cuz u know that already..and try to do as many questions as u can ...I honestly had it easy though didn't have to worry about money or doing any house chores cuz i lived with my parents during this time...
I know how hard it can be if u have a family, kids..so do it at ur own pace ...and don't ever get discouraged..

Goodluck

Hey guys..ya i had bought it cuz it was so hard finding it online as opposed to the kaplan stuff which is readily available...but i honestly would try to get my hands on it if u can ..cuz even if u get the videos..its really hard to get the notes...and his notes are gold...so if u have to chose between buying kaplan or DIT ..go for DIT..u can find enough kaplan and goljan online...im sure u can find DIT too but at that point it was a month before my exam and i had no time to waste...at the end literally whatever he said came on ...and his extra notes also came on the test

Thumbs Up Amazing Deal! Doctors in Training!

I am sure you might have you heard of Doctors in Training? Here...
http://www.doctorsintraining.com/usmle-step-1/why-dit

It contains videos + some assignments and covers the entire first aid in 15 days. Each day you listen to 3-4 hrs of video that uses first aid 2011 as the only primary book. The program is darn good.
But cost $795 and you can only view 1 time and have watch all of them within a specific time line. Its $995 if you want a split access. you can check out the prices when u click on register.

Question

Congrats! You did extremely well! And thanks for sharing your experience with us! One question about the DIT notes: how many pages? I don't know if I have time for that, because my FA is already pretty "obese" with all my notes. I might consider DIT just to get a clearer perspective. Thanks!

nkbs, another question: how did you find the notes? I looked it up yesterday on amazon and e-bay and could not find anything. I guess, the only way would be to enroll in their course, because they don't sell the notes separately...
