Default If you've written Step 1 recently, please write your advice here.

...what final bits of advice would you give us?

There is a lot of contradicting info out there about what to focus on this exam season, so I thought it would be a good idea to put all the advice in one spot.

To get started, I have a couple questions for people who've done the exam recently:

1. I've done Anatomy from FA and Kaplan LN + videos. Is that not enough anymore? I don't really have time to go through HY Gross Anatomy, so what would you suggest we do.

2. In general, what would you have done differently if you could do the exam over again?

You're saying that Kaplan and FA isn't enough for pelvic anatomy? Good to know, thanks!

Congrats to all you July 9 results people.

We would really love to know what advice you've got for the rest of us. Especially those of us with only a few weeks to go before exam day.

I finally finished this thing, and I thought that maybe I should not be a hypocrite and tell you what I know.

Never took NBMEs at the end, because it was do or die for me, and there was no point in killing what little confidence I had. Instead I did UWSA1 (236) 4 weeks out, and UWSA2 2 days out (260). Final Step 1 = 234. I was pretty excited, inshaAllah, I'm hoping its enough.

Things you should know:

1. The exam is NOT as hard as you think it is. Believe me. Just know the general principles and concepts. The only thing that needs straight memorization is microbio and some pharma. The rest is concept-based. So, don't stress the details so much.

2. Kaplan. Kaplan. Kaplan. Because the exam is concept based, you need to make sure you have a solid base of the general principles. By far, the best way to do that is through Kaplan videos. I ended up watching most of them twice or more, and going through all the books a minimum of 2 times, and most 3 times. You need to have your concepts down.

3. Pathoma. Just do it once, and see how you do on the questions. If you're good, than move on. Pathology really isn't as big a deal as people are making it out to be.

4. Anatomy...ignore the hype. There is a normal amount of anatomy on the exam. The questions are mostly UL and LL, and some abdomen. All basic stuff. I don't remember a single pelvic anatomy question, so I don't know why people were freaking out.

That's all I remember for now. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. But seriously, this exam was not that big a deal. Chillax, and good luck.
