Post My Study Plan! Input Please

Hello! First of all I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this forum, you guys are amazing! I have been reading a lot of peoples experience with the Step 1 since Im planning to embark on this journey.

A little background info....I am an IMG who graduated last week (June 2014). I am a US-Citizen but have lived almost my whole life in the Dominican Republic.

I have given a lot of thought and have planned extensively my study plan or schedule (like B.Franklin said; By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail). So I would love for some input from you guys!

Expected prep time.: 5 months (from July 15 to December 15). Studying 10 hours a day for 6 days a week.

Resources to be used.:
  • Kaplan Lecture Notes + Videos (except pathology and micro)
  • Pathoma
  • MMRS and flashcards
  • First Aid
  • Conrad Fisher Ethics Book
  • DIT
  • USMLERX
  • UWorld
  • Kaplan Qbank
  • NBME

Schedule
2 months for first review, subject-wise (Physiology-Biochemistry-Anatomy-Inm and Micro-Behavioral Sciences-Pharmacology-Pathology).

Read the Kaplan Lecture Notes or substitue (pathoma and mmrs) and after each chapter watch the corresponding videos (at 1.5x o 2x of speed). When I finish a whole subject/book Im going to read first aid section and afterwards do USMLERX for such subject i just studied.

When i finish all subjects give First Aid a read in 10 days. When Im done with FA start my Kaplan Qbank subscription and do as much as I can in 20 days (referring back to FA as needed). Start UWorld Qbank planning on finishing it on 25 days after that do one NBME. After do DIT (15 days) and try and do some more UWorld questions in between. When done with DIT another NBME. Evaluate my weak areas and quick read of FA with more attention to the weak subjects. Another NBME and then TEST DAY!

Thanks in advanced!

I wouldn't say too many books if you don't have very string basics.

However, I don't think one needs MMRS and flash cards. I used both and trust me,in the end, all you need for micro is what's written in FA (and UWorld). The rest is low yield.

Also I don't know if you really plan in 3 qbanks but I'd say 2 should be fine and if your scores don't improve after that, add in another one fit more practice.

Thanks for all the replies! Yeah 3 QBanks it's probably too much...I will stick with Usmlerx (already bought it with a coupon :P) and Uworld. And the time that I was gonna dedicate to Kaplan QBank I will do a quick review of the Kaplan lecture notes without the videos.

And will only use the flashcards (already have them) and FA for micro.

You can also skin Kaplan Path (quite poor imo) and micro (FA is gold and the flashcards you have will just drill in the concepts.) The other subjects are ok-excellent (biochemistry, pharm, immunology: you HAVE to watch the videos for these to get the best out of Kaplan)

Good luck!

Hello, I'm form DR too.

I like your plan. I suggest to skip micro videos and make some notes from kaplan in the FA. That will smooth the FA reading. Don't spend too much on kaplan, 8-12 weeks as you've already planned is enough. I spent 1 month in a subject and 1 month later I couldn't recall 30% .

Good luck.
