Default New questions set for step 1: take care folks !

I gave step 1 in June 24th. I guess all those gave the exam between May 13th and last June and waiting big July 9th day will agree that the questions of step 1 have been changed. The new pool contains really weird questions which depend on common sense and general knowledge. Pharmacology questions are particularly new and hard. I got 5 anatomy questions in the pelvis a lone and maybe 3 in the hand muscles ! I'm afraid to say UW isn't representative for this new exam, the exam is far difficult than UW which I speculate they will make some changes for the future exam takers. You will hear more after July 9th, and I recommend all future exam takers to take care about this change.

Thanks for the feedback Osman.

Unfortunately my prep has been based on FA and Uworld along with kaplan videos done at the beginning (most of which I can't recall). Also, did some NBMEs along the way.

My exam is in the near future so I really can't change anything now.

I hope you scored well either way. I'm sure they account for difficulty in their grading system and you will receive a high step 1 score.

Good luck!

I think uworld sucks in anatomy genetics and biostat behav. science. Terrible explanations and actually they dont have usmle type anatomy questions. The exam is getting weirder. Uworld should edit their qbank as soon as possible.

Thanks mate, wish you all the best too. Yes, I guess no thing can be changed in the prep work. I think FA is still the most important thing to do for step 1. The new set of questions is not about prep but about the type of questions. For 2 or 3 blocks I can hardly finished on time. I recommend also to consolidate the anatomy and the Pharmacology. Drugs suitable and unsuitable for renal impairment, liver impairment. .etc. There are a lot of specimens and histopathlogy slides, diagrams and graphs. At least 50% of questions came in a form of experiments like saying a group of investigators did the following and gave you a long story. I couldn't even remember more than 10 questions because I was running against the time to finish the block.

very true Osman, totally agree with you.
gone are the days when 'FA and UW were enough'

I wonder how american students felt the exam was, they use the same material I guess, just that they might be taught to handle such questions at med school.

Not much people can do about it though.

Agree with pranavmerchant and osman . Exam was far more difficult and weird than FA and uw content . I hope uw ppl and FA ppl will take notice of these HUGE MEGA changes and update there materials accordingly . For rest pf ua who gave exam have to wait till 9th july .

hope so, thanks mate!

pharm was fine, they were after basic concepts and graphs.
like those weird drugs like alemtuzumab and stuff from FA and UW were not asked at all but I guess you should try and know those.

Hell no!
Did you give form 16?
that will give you a good idea about how they frame questions these days, if you are comfortable with that then I guess the exam wont feel too different.

Thanks a lot for the info i have couple of weeks left for my exam and i am pretty much confused as to what to focus on cause basically i focused on 3Ps (patho, pharma, physio)
Few doubts regarding the qs pool
1) was anatomy asked more than patho OR was the qs from anatomy difficult to solve
2) as far the change of the qs pool what are the main sub to focus on is fa+uworld still have to be considered for prep cause i have every little time left for my exam and i havent done fa nor u world once yet

So we should focus more on NBME 16 than UW qbank? What book did you use for gross anatomy? I am using HY for gross and neuro. Is that alright?
