Default Trouble with Kaplans

Hey guys

I would like to know what is the main purpose of kaplans first read?
How much I need to rely on Kaplan and memorize?
If I would like to go with kaplan along with FA, how should I do that?

I'm really confused about how to use kaplan books especially when there is extra information, and I'm wounder what is the main point of reading Kaplans before doing FA

Thanks for the help guys

Well , the kaplan notes are your base . Now , if your basics are strong and u worked hard in med school then you could just go through kaplan very fast(along with first aid) and start doing the questions . But if your basics arent that good then it ll take more time to grasp the concepts but it worth the effort really . You shouldnt try to rush through your first read because this is the most important part of your preparation . Try to understand the concepts and of course memorize the high yield stuff (start making mnemonic now itself).

Id suggest you read first aid alongside your kaplan lecture notes . That way , you will know which topics are high yield and topics you can ignore . You dont need to memorize everything in kaplan (that ll be way too much information to retain) . read one chapter in kaplan and then the same thing from first aid . Now since Kaplan had a lot more info than first aid , i incorporated the extra points in first aid into my kaplan notes (i found this easier to do than doing it the other way round) . the problem with this was that revision took a lot of time . If u think u can revise the whole portion from ur kaplan notes in abt 15 days then u could try doing this .

Another thing Id suggest is , try doing the online question banks early on . You finish one subject (say anatomy) and do the questions from the qbank . You might not understand everything at this point of time because you haven't read all the subjects (you could mark those questions and review them later on) but you will get a better idea abt the type of questions in the real exam .

Revising Kaplan Lec Notes will be a lot easier if you use Kaplan Medessentials. Its like First Aid containing all the tables, diagrams and high yield info from Kaplan Lec Notes. If you have more time, you may want to transfer these notes to your First Aid. That is what I'm doing...
