All-cause mortality rate, prevalence and case fatality rate question!

You are a doctor who practices medicine in a community of 100,000 persons. During 2010, there were 1,000 deaths from all causes. All cases of cardiovascular disease were identified, and they totaled 300. During 2010, there were 60 deaths from cardiovascular disease.

1. The annual all‐cause mortality rate in that community in 2010 was:
a) 300 per 100,000
b) 60 per 1000
c) 100 per 1000
d) 10 per 1000

2. The prevalence of cardiovascular disease in that community in 2010 was:
a) 0.03%
b) 0.3%
c) 3.0%
d) 0.06%
e) 0.6%

3. The case fatality rate for cardiovascular disease in that community in 2010 was:
a) 0.06%
b) 0.6%
c) 0.2%
d) 2%
e) 20%

1- D) 10/1000
annual all‐cause mortality rate = mortality rate/ population
1000/100000= 10/1000

2- B) 0.3 %
Prevalnce = cases/population*100%
300/100000*100%=0.003*100%= 0.3 %
(Or simply 300/100000 = 3/1000 which is 0.3%)

3- E) 20%
Case fatality rate=fatalities among cases/all cases of a certain dz* 100%
60/300*100%= 0.2*100%= 20% (which is clear that 60 is one fifth 300)
