Unhappy So Sad ...

Hi!
this is my first topic and I am sorry because of this beginning I received my score for step one few hours ago and was 79. I was shocked when I received it I feel I did very good in exam and even expected my score to be in nineties I lost all hope now. I live for this hope especially this is the only way for me as I don’t work any more since one year ago. I just passed step 2 ck with 87 score nothing in my cv only one year of internship outside US and above all that I am Iraqi .
Please I want your support if there's any hope for me to get residency in US.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that.

don't give up hope! you can still apply to FM programs. but you have to beef up your CV. Is there any US doc in any local hospital? maybe u can have some work experience with him? you have to make contacts and get letters recommending you in high regard.

Your nationality will not stand in the way if GOD has destined your residency in the US. Do all that you can to improve your status. Do research, publish in journals. network with others (search in Google etc). You should be thankful that u passed in first attempt. Pass CS and do step 3 and pass that also. Do volunteer work inside and outside the US. All of this helps. and when you apply for residency select your programs wisely (no Duke's, Harvard etc) this will maximize your chances of matching and you'll save money.

ABOVE ALL DO NOT LOOSE HOPE. WELL DONE FOR PASSING. KEEP FAITH IN YOURSELF. YOU'LL BE FINE.

ALL THE BEST.

Default Oh Happy Day, this how you should to begin

Dear Shaimaa,
I just heard what happened to you but "from twitter" believe me that isn't the end, I got my step one after the 3rd year in Cairo medicine school and I didn't expect that I will pass but I did, what the odd, but in my step two ck I took it as a joke so I passed it in the second time, and now i hope to the step two cs, I just want to till you keep going. Step one score doesn't effect too much like step two ck, cs score so you still in the game , hope to see u in us to get residency in US.

tc
Yours'

Here's my friend story.
Old graduate from Pakistan, Step 1 score 79, Step 2 score 82, Step 3 score 79, SC second attempt, no US clinical experience, no research, no publication, worked in non medical field.
He's now doing Psychiatry residency in New York (second year).

The moral of this story tells you clearly not to give up hope. In fact your situation is so far better than many others who ultimately got residency.

The new health care reform will certainly put hospitals in more demand of residents and this will for sure be covered by IMGs like us.

Good luck,
