Kidney Three cysts in each kidney!

A 25-year-old man with flank pain is found to have three cysts in each kidney, normal hepatic and renal function, and family history is not clear. He is most likely to have:

a. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease
b. Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease
c. Acquired cystic disease
d. Medullary sponge kidney

i think this is AD PKD, because he does have pain but normal renal fxn, excluding the AR form of PKD. The acquired cystic disease is often asymptomatic..but i'm not sure on how one can rule out it being medullary sponge kidney.

Yes, it is AD Polycystic Kidney disease. Patients with AR polycystic kidney disease can't live until 25 years old. Acquired cystic disease requires a dialysis history. Medullary sponge kidney doesnt seem like 3 cysts in each kidney.
