Neuro Microscopic Changes In Sequence After Cerebral Infarction!

A Mnemonic to remember microscopic changes after Cerebral Infarction in sequence=

"My Red Neurons Have Liquifactive Fate After Infarction"

1) M = Minimal change (0-12hrs)

2) R = Red Eosinophilic Neurons with pyknotic nuclei (12-24hrs)

3) N = Neutrophilic Infiltration (24-48hrs)

4) H = Histiocytic Infiltration (2-10 days)

5) L = Liquifactive Necrosis & histiocytes filled with myelin breakdown products (2-3 weeks)

6) F = Fluid filled cavity, reactive astrocytes & Lipid laden macrophage (3wks-months)

7) A = Astrogliosis surrounding cyst (years)
