Neuro Hypothalamic Nuclei

If there's anything that is high yield about the hypothalamus then it's definitely the nuclei what hormones, factors, or functions they have.

There some mnemonics that help us remember these;

  • If you lesion the ventromedial nucleus you'll will grow ventromedially (obesity).
  • Anterior zone is the A/C, as it cools the body
  • Posterior zone causes poikilothermy if lesioned.
  • Suprchiasmactic nucleus it related to the optic pathways (the chiasm) and circadian rhythms.
  • Supraoptic nucleus secretes the ADH and oxytocin that flows from the "supra" superiorly located hypothalamus down to the posterior pituitary.

LAteral

Leptin = Lesion = Lose the desire to eat = Anorexia

supraoptic + Vasopressin = #V = 1
paraVentricular + Oxytocin = #V = 1
