WOW, congrats! What do you think helped make that huge jump between 6 and 4 weeks and 2 weeks and 4 days? If you've made enough posts, would you mind sending me a pm please? I'm currently scheduled for 5/23 and would love any tips. My realistic goal is 230-235; but I still have a way to go.

Default Deep breaths

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to post a message for anyone who's reading these score threads and freaking out, like I was a few weeks ago. My scores:

NBME test at school, 6 weeks prior: 190
UWSA1, 4 weeks prior: 224
UWSA2, 1.5 weeks prior: 236
UWorld percentage (first pass, M2 year): 62% (during dedicated study time, this was probably closer to 68/69%)
Real score: 257

I want to do dermatology, so I was terrified when I saw everyone posting on here with really high scores on practice tests and lower on the real test. My advice would be not to worry too much about practice scores--from what I can tell, they give you a good idea of where you are, but it can vary greatly from person to person.

If anyone is interested in my study schedule, I'm happy to share; just PM me.

Good luck, everyone!

Spent a lot of time on this thread trying to comfort myself, figured I'd pay it forward:

UWorld: 79% - One pass in the first 4 of my 5 weeks of dedicated study time, I did timed 44Q blocks, but I didn't do random
NBME 16: 254 (91%) - 2 weeks out
Free 137: 95% - 10 days out (really helpful, would highly recommend it even though it's not a good score correlation)
NBME 17: 239 (88%) - 1 week out (freaked me out, super steep curve if you are scoring on the higher end, don't let it get you down)
NBME 18: 251 (90%) - 4 days out
Step 1: 258

Good luck to you!!

Default Why such a big difference

I took the UWorld assessment test 1 a week ago and scored 237 and took the NBME form 15 today and scored only 430/213. Can anyone tell me why there is such a bog difference. And what should be the game plan for me?

I think this forum was very helpful and I spent hours on it trying to estimate my score, and after 2 looooong months of waiting I can finally write this

UW qbank - first pass 51%
Kaplan Qbank - first pass 60%
- after redoing the wrong ones - 80%
UWSA2 : 200
NBME 18 (1 month before exam) : 202

Kaplan Sim 1 & 2 : 62%

Real score 217

Default Step 1

This forum was helpful to me during my study period to give me reassurance that my practice tests actually were meaningful, so here's my contribution. In terms of study tips, I followed a lot of the advice given in this Reddit post: (Google "272 UFAP to success reddit"...apparently I can't post links on here). Thank you to everyone else who posted before me.

NBME 13 two months out: 249
NBME 12 one month out: 251
NBME 16 2.5 weeks out: 256
NBME 17 ten days out: 264
UWSA1 five days out: 261
UWSA2 four days out: 263
USMLE Step 1 real deal: 266

Good luck!

Took exam July 7th
Uworld average: 76% ended in April (started in the fall, 6 month subscription, scores gradually increased to over 80% at the end)
Uworld sim: 257 in April (tends to overestimate)
Free 137: 89% 1 month before step
NBME 18: 243 4 weeks before step (this is the harder one, so i suggest do it last)
NBME 17: 262 1 week before step
Step: 255

I know it is far too late now. Hope you did well. I mainly revised FA repetitively and kept going through UW as much as possible.

Default Worried. If I was a Personality Disorder, I'd be Type C right now.

June - 6 months before = NBME 13 (offline) 74% (210)
June - 5.5 months before = School NBME 73% (~207)
End of July 4 months before - USMLE Rx Complete = 75% (predicted score on USMLE Rx is a joke, says 250)
Beginning August - 4 months before - NBME 1 (offline) = 72% (205)
Beginning August USMLE Rx Half-Simulation = 77%
End-August 4 months out - NBME 2 (offline) = 76% (215)
Mid-September NBME 3 (offline) = 80% (225)
End-September NBME 4 (offline) = 82% (230)
Beginning October NBME 5 (offline) = 79% (223)
Beginning October NBME 12 (ONLINE) = 500 (228)
October 7 NBME = 78 (220)

Planning on doing all NBMEs. Almost done UWorld (currently at 69% cumulative average). Did Kaplan Qbank, didn't like it (too nitpicky).

I take Step 1 at the end of December. Do you think its possible to improve ~20 points in 2.5 months? My target score is anything 240+... nervous about it...

Wow! Congrats . This opens so many doors for you. I hope I can get something decent . Planning to take mine towards the end of next year. Honestly, I don't know where and how to begin. Would you be so kind to share the details of your prep? How long, sources used, etc. What did you find most helpful? Thanks and best of luck on your Step 2.

Thanks!

The sources I used:

-First Aid
-BRS Physiology
-Pathoma
-High-Yield Anatomy/Embryology/Neuroanatomy
-High-Yield Behavioral Science
-Kaplan Immunology lecture notes
-Microcards
-Kaplan Pharmacology cards
-Lange Biochemistry cards

Study time: 6 months

Months 1&2: I read through First Aid twice

Months 3&4: I studied each subject from the above sources + revised First Aid quickly + revised each subject again quickly

Month 5: UWorld (105 q's/day [3 blocks of 35q's]). I had a few days at the end to quickly revise my incorrectly answered questions. On the last day of my 1 month subscription, I did a simulated exam with my marked questions (7 blocks of 60q's + 1 hour for breaks)

Month 6: I quick revised all of the sources I studied from before (First Aid+ all of the subjects). Five days before the exam, I took NBME 18 + UWSA 2 back-to-back. The day before the test, I only revised lightly and made sure to sleep early.

All in all, I studied First Aid 5 times and each subject around 3 times.

Out of all the sources I used, my favorites had to be Pathoma and BRS Physiology; both of which were excellent sources. While the other sources were good, none of them really stood out to me as a great source (especially the flash cards). Of course First Aid and UWorld were great (pretty much the best) sources. Interestingly, my performance on the UWorld qbank perfectly predicted my score. I got 86% correct, which was 96th percentile (my actual step to 1 score of 261 is also approximately 96th percentile). This correlation might not hold up for everyone, but in retrospect, it was the best predictor for me.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. Did you also do Kaplan videos or NBMEs during your preparation? Just wondering how predictive the scores are

No I do any Kaplan videos, but I watched the Pathoma videos and they were very good.

I did use NBMEs. I got a 269 on NBME 18; this was about 5 days before the actual exam. My actual score was 261, so I think there's fairly good predictive value. From my hours of forum digging, I think it's safe to assume that most self-assessments give a score within +/- 10 of the real score, though there are definitely extreme cases.
