Attending live lectures, watching updated current DVDs, having your own [legal] lecture notes, meeting all sorts of students, finding your study partner, ...etc

So many advantages

The only problem is that it's expensive

As medical students, I doubt we will have time to fly to US (if you are IMG) to go for these preps.

kaplan webprep is now awesome, they put the videos there and you can stream them online.
Guys, Kaplan webprep worth every single penny you pay for it

The recent improvements to web prep with online streaming of videos have made web prep is the best choice ever.

I used the Kaplan Question-based review. It's awesome and much cheaper than their WebPrep

Take the 14 weeks.
Don't do Falcon.
The best Kaplan center is in Houston or the one in chicago

Kaplan Lecture notes and the Q bank is definitely the ideal combo to go with when you have time!

Default center prep vs live lecture

hi,
i wanted to know what the main advantage/disadvantage is between taking center prep vs kaplan live prep 14 weeks. is it better just to revise centerprep videos on your own? or take the live prep?

Based on my personal experience, doing both ways will maximize your preparation. If you already have Kaplan Videos with you, there's no point of taking center prep anymore unless you really have problem with studying on your own space and desperately need Kaplan atmosphere to motivate you. Otherwise, just attend the live lecture, and I think 7 weeks is enough, no need to extend it to 14 weeks. Please make sure that you have finished revising all Kaplan Notes at least once before attending the lecture. That will maximize the outcome of attending this lecture. Hope it helps.

Embarrassed which kaplan review course is most effective for USMLE step1?

I am an IMG, graduated 10 years ago and wanted to enroll to "classroom anywhere" course from Kaplan ( new product of kaplan) which is a 14 weeks live lecture ( thru online)...4 months online review course and 4 months free Qbank.
I need a survey or reviews regarding this course esp. an ONLINE review course. How effective is it? Or should i enroll at a centerprep? and How long should i study? 6/ 9 months? for step 1

You can't sign up for the Classroom anywhere until September 25, do you know that?
See the schedule here

yes, anyone who is interested can enroll anytime in classroom anywhere of Kaplan but the start of the live lecture which is held @ New Jersey will be on Aug29th and ends on December 4, 2011. You can check it on the website and go to the classroom anywhere to see the next scheduled date for the course which is still discounted until the end of the month.

I want to know if this new course will be as effective as centerprep.

I've done the classroom anywhere, it's very nice and useful and convenient. I didn't do CenterPrep so I can't really tell the difference, but I was checking with my friends and I got exactly the same lectures they were getting. So go for it, it's good.
I even voted for it in the poll above.

Thanks so much for the positive response, I appreciate it so much.
Are you still in the course? When did u actually enroll and did you get additional courses on top of it? It's 4 months right?
How long or short did you review for step 1? Is it full time?
What does your schedule looks like when you were on the "classroom anywhere"?

Hey Dr.Masoud,

I took the 7 week live prep. It was pretty much the videos from kaplan but a very fast pace. Not every page was covered from the books.

In hindsight, my money and time would have been better spent studying at home or library.

I decided to purchase the kaplan hy videos as they correlate with the first aid pages so I could add in anything i needed. That was very helpful I found.

The center prep is a place within the kaplan center where you can watch the kaplan regular videos (not high yield).

Hope that helps.

As always, you can ask kaplan for a refund before you start classes.

good luck with your studies
