Eye Clues to ophthalmological diagnosis

  • Discharge + sand in the eye+ red eye + peripheral injection --> conjunctivitis
  • Discharge + photophobia + foreign body sensation + limbal injection --> keratitis
  • No discharge + photophobia + fixed dilated pupil +/- Nausea vomiting and headache + limbal injection --> glaucoma
  • No discharge + photophobia + constricted pupil + limbal injection --> uveitis
  • Constant boring pain that worsens at night or in the early morning hours and radiates to the face and periorbital region + movement on eye pain without involvement of pupil --> Scleritis
  • Increasing number of floaters, flashes (particularly at darkness) + "Curtain coming down" --> Retinal detachment
    Acute painless vision loss with pallor of retina +- cherry red spot --> CRAO
  • Acute painless vision loss + disk swelling + cotton wool spots + retinal hemorrhages --> CRVO
