Ive been toying with the idea of preparing for step 3. However, I do have some concerns. For instance, since I cant take the old format, even if I take mine, it shall be in NOv, and I wont get teh score back in April, how is that going to affect the match? With the changes in format, are current prep materials/plan good enough for the new exams? What if I bomb it? Say, I dont get matched this year, and how are the Pds going to see my failed attempt on Step 3?

I do have these doubts too, but the thing that motivates me to do step 3 is the idea that haunts me of studying in internship and preparing for it during the most busy year of your career, I have tried going through a similar experience this year preparing for ck during my work as a research fellow trust me I barely had the time to do so it was such an overwhelming task especially if your are working from 8-5 and only free for your studies post work, in addition , we are all fresh since we just finished ck and I believe it wont take that much effort to prepare for it, I agree on the fact that the test is changing but are they changing it extensively is it transforming to a different test I dont believe so this conclusion is based solely on a inner sense.

Hey. I think the changes of the test are not going to affect too much on a pass/fail basis. It might hurt your score a little bit, but then again, the test is scored in a such a way so that it favors difficult and new questions (and as everybody says, no one cares about the step 3 score). I think its a good idea to take step 3 before starting residency, because of the free time (if you have), and having fresh step 1 and step 2 CK facts.

Most AMGs prefer to take step 3 during internship/residency because they learn a lot concerning clinical knowledge and patient care. While most IMGs already have a lot of experience in that area.

By the way, I hate that the changes affect the score report timing, it totally blocked me from applying for a H1b visa sponsored residency program.
