Thyroid Thyroid nodule ? next step

A 46 year old women comes to the office because small mass she found in thyroid , a small nodule is found in thyroid .there is no tenderness .she otherwise asymptomatic ,and uses no medication .

what is the most appropriate next step in management of this patient ?


A- Radio iodine uptake scan
B- Thyroid ultrasound
C- surgical removal (excisional biopsy)
D- Fine needle aspiration biopsy
E- T4 and TSH level

E (to be more specific TSH) .... If TSH is normal/increased THEN we do FNA

yes correct the answer is E

you should first exclude hyperthyroidism then if it normal go for FNA

shouldnt we try to rule out malignancy by doin a radio iodine uptak scan or fnac as solitary nodules r likely to be malignant nd mor likely if they are cold nodules on radio iodin uptake??
