STUDY TIME:

During my 3rd year I practically only did uworld 1x... had a 78% on first time pass with tutor mode doing 5 block questions (lol... I may have ADD). I practically made notes from uworld + MTB2 + MTB3, and by the end of the 3rd year I had completed uworld + my notes by consolidating everything. My shelf exams weren't spectacular... I mean never really studied for them aside from uworld, and I felt that they were very poorly written with a lot of ambiguity. So if you have done poor on your shelf's I don't think it means anything, but if you have done well then kudos as it can only reflect well on your CK score.

Shelf exams - Ranging from 75 to 82
Step 1: 256

After my 3rd year rotations, I studied for 2 weeks.

Week 1 - Read through all my uworld notes + MTB2
Week 2 - 6 days of uworld marathon 350q's a day. Did NBME 4 + UWSA on the same day 2 days before my exam. Had a 257 on UWSA, and 264 on NBME 4.

DAY OF EXAM:
I felt like 34/44 q.s felt like uworld questions in the sense that they could be narrowed down to one answer choice albeit there may be some hard and some easy questions. Each block had 10 WTF questions, where you really don't know how to narrow down two answers.

Overall I marked 7 questions per block, total of 51 marked questions on my exam. Of that 51, I checked I got 15 of them right but rest I am sure I got wrong.

Biostats standalone questions were straightforward. Know your formulas and basic concepts and you should be good.
Abstract questions --> Pretty much marked all 9 questions I had on my exam. I hate these and wouldn't be surprised if I got all of them wrong. Leave these questions to the end b/c its not worth killing your time on these

Overall, I walked out of the exam moderately disappointed. I knew I had almost 10 questions per block where I was unsure and that was unsettling for me. I was anticipating scores between 240-245 based on this feeling as I was no where as confident as I was when I was taking my UWSA/NBME 4.

At the end of the day, the curve is good and favourable and you need to just trust your prep.

p.s: I feel like NBME/UWSA still use a mean of 225ish to set their curves for grading... so if you get 250+ on the UWSA or NBME, youll be closer to that number because the mean for the real exam is 238. So you have more room to make mistakes and screw up while still ending up getting the same 3 digit score (albeit percentile wise you are probably lower but who cares).

Just happy to be done with exams !

Relax and trust your prep! Don't get frustrated during the exam, and manage your time efficiently by picking your best answer and moving on. Questions aren't trying to trick you ... if you think its the answer, it probably is the answer ! You probably wont have time to recheck your marked question so always select an answer before moving on

good luck to those who are waiting to hear back, and those still waiting to write the exam.
