Smile Got another 99: Here's my CK Prep

Hi guys,

Got my CK result today.....99/245.
i'm soooo happy.

prep materials:
Kaplan LN for all the subjects
Kaplan videos for medicine, Gyne, psychiatry.

prep duration: 3.5 months

Prep schedule:

Medicine 3wks) kaplan LN, then all medicine Kaplan videos, then Qbook
Surgery 2wks) Kaplan LN, then Qbook
Obs & gyne 2 wks) Kaplan LN, then Kaplan videos (gyne only), then Qbook
Pediatrics 2 wks) Kaplan LN, then Qbook.
Psychiatry 1 wk) Kaplan LN, then kaplan Videos, FA (step1), then Qbook

Quick revision (Medicine and jotted notes): 1 wk

UWorld (online, random, timed): 3wks

NBME: 630 (2days to exam)

Exam day:
Very stressful, but Red Bull made a good impact.
55% med, then Obs & Gyn about 20 %. others 25%.
very similar to Uworld both in content and structure, longer than Uworld only in about 20% of questions.
Had a constant 3min rest in btw all blocks, with major breaks after blocks 1, 3, and 5.

ABOVE ALL I GIVE GLORY TO GOD.

to the staff and fellow forumites, thanks for the wonderful posts and threads, you guys are the best.

@kemoo,
I did NBME 4. The correlation was not so accurate in my case, with a 15 point difference between the predicted 260 and the actual 245.
possibly, exam conditions could explain it.

Congrats on a grt score.

I have a question.What helped u the most in achieving that stellar score? Uworld + Kaplan only or with additional help of ur step 1 score and ur clinical knowledge before in ur rotations.That would help many of us here.

Thanks in advance

@aghammoud 85,
In Usmle World, I was getting between 68 and 79, with occasional 80's. had overall cummulative score of 76%.

@ sarah 1,
I'll advice u do an NBME, see where u stand, then do online Uworld to keep u in the exam mode, random, timed always, after 2wks of reviewing ur weak points, do another NBME, if the score is not impressive, postpone ur exam.
Uworld is only enough if u have done the kaplan notes very well, and if it is done online, random, timed, with review of wrong and/or marked questions.

@ cool_atomic,
I believe the qbook is best used to consolidate on knowledge gained from the lecture notes, the % is not relevant, its just a learning material.
i will recommend it in a subject wise mode.

@ examsmasher,
i will say its the recent step 1, coupled with proper kaplan CK lecture note review. prior clinical knowledge helped to a lesser extent, but if you are an AMG, prior clinical knowledge should be a big boost.

@ cool-atomic,
a 70% on qbook, or any qbank for that matter is good. it shows u are understanding the concepts. just keep the pace, don't lose steam, u'll do fine.

@ seetal,
CK can be "Easier" to fail and easier to pass, it goes both ways. there is a great element of uncertainty that beclouds step 2CK, making it very unpredictable.
In step 1, when you are ready, you can sense it, glucose -6-phosphate will always be the same. but the ACIP recommendations for example can change anytime, so do all of the best initial tests, and best initial managements we find on CK.

my take is that CK will be easier for AMG's than step 1, while the converse might be true for IMG's, at least so it is in my case.

@ lady luck,
having done well with this plan in step 1 (about 6mths ago), i believed so much in it that i did my first and only NBME 2 days to my exam.
though my UW scores were reassuring.

@ future Radiolog,
Kaplan Obg is good enough, just make sure you support it with what you will learn in UWorld.
Its the kaplan gynae that i find insufficient,though the kaplan gynae video helped a lot.

@shum,
I used the CK kaplan psychiatry LN, along with the video, despite these, psy on the exam was still ambiguous.

Hey! congrats! great job...
One question, how much would you recommend kaplan videos? I'm following a similar schedule (but about 3 months max) and wasn't planning to do the videos. Also added Master the Boards which I've found only useful for IM.

@jorgemorales,
For me, the kaplan videos were like doing a 2nd read of kaplan LN,
its the time to master what really counts. 1 wk should be enough to nail the medicine, the make sure you do the gynae, it clears the concepts.
If you are weak in psy, then add the videos.
mtb seems good, it should aid revision.
I was working, and i made it in 3.5mths, If you study full time, then 3mths is enough.

@ americandoc,
mtb is highly rated, if u can lay ur hand on it, use it, but mostly for review.
i did not use any specific slide for x-ray, i interpret it daily in clinic, only got a few, go through the ones in kaplan IM book it should suffice.
old question banks helps, i did a couple of them subject wise during my study, its all about consolidating stuffs.
But keep Online Uworld till the end...you'll be glad you did.
