Default Step 2 CK -259

Hello everyone,

I an IMG who gave my Step 2 CK on July 23rd. Got my results on Aug 13th and it was a surprising 259!! So here is a brief summary of my prep

Prep time - 4 months
Resources - MTB 2 for Internal Med, EM, Psy and Opthal
MTB 3 for others
U world
Study hours - 5-6 hours per day (6days per week)
Target score - 250

Week 1 - week 3
First pass of MTB 2 and 3

Week 4 -Week 10
U world Q bank
I used to take 4-5 hours per block initially. I had a notebook that i divided into topics and i usually write down my U world notes into it. I could see the high yield questions which repeats frequently. After about 30% completion, my speed went up a little, where i used to do 1 block in 3-4 hours. I felt U world was the best tool in CK prep. so my advice, do not rush - know every single line from it

Week 11-13
Second read of MTB 2 and 3 along with U world notes
10% of uncompleted U World

Week 14
UWSA - 261 (19mistakes)
3-4 blocks of uncompleted U world

Week 15-16
UW second time - incorrect and marked questions only

Week 17
NBME 6 - 256 ( I thought it was easy, and many repeated concepts fom UW, as its a modification of NBME 1)

Week 18
Revision of UW notes.

UW first pass - 72%
UWSA - 261
NBME 6 - 256

Exam day
Honestly i felt the questions were very vague and almost one third of the block i was unsure between 2 answers. I marked about 15 questions per block. Time was a big limitation. I finished each block with less than 5 minutes to spare to review back the questions. There was one block, i ran out of time, that i had to quickly mark about 7-8 questions in less than 5 minutes.

I did the drug ads ads and abstracts the last. I think i had 2/3 questions in 4 blocks in total. Regarding breaks, i had to take toilet break after each block since i was 21 weeks pregnant. Towards my last block i hardy had 5 minutes break to take. I was so exhausted towards 7th and 8th block and all i wanted was to finish it and go back home!

I walked out of the exam not feeling confident(same way i felt after step 1 though). Somehow was hoping for more than 240, but was definitely shocked with 259. Thanks to god

So wish everyone all the best.

If you have the time then go ahead and read KLN. I had to finish it in 4 months, that's why i skipped KLN. If you are doing KLN, then its okay to skip MTB3 i guess. If you are doing only MTB 2, then the O&G, Paeds and Surgical has lesser portions.

Do not worry. I felt UW covers most of the things. Concentrate on that. Good luck

cause everyone here with very high ck socre(like yours) seems to have very high step 1 scores as well (like you)

I scored 220 and now aiming for 250+ on ck

4 months for prep

Step 1 knowledge definitely helps, especially if you do Step 2 CK immediately after Step 1. I felt Step 2 CK prep was much easier because there was more application and less minute things to remember, plus i had 2 years of clinical experience.

Definitely possible! My initial aim for Step 1 was 230 but again i was lucky. I have read many people's experience who achieved the mean in Step 1 but did extremely well in Step 2 CK. Concentrate on concepts for Step 2 CK. Good luck!

Its definitely good to do as many questions as possible since you have time. You can do UW after kaplan
