Star Exam prep advice please!

Hi,

Never used a thread before haha.

I'm an IMG from the UK starting to study for CK and CS. Want to do both exams pre-Christmas 2014, step 1 by April/May 2015 and step 3 in May 2015.
Questions:
1. Is this realistic?
2. Which books should I use? (So far I have master the boards 2ck)
3. Which Q banks should I use?
4. Are online lectures worth it?
5. What score should I aim for? (I want to do plastic surgery)

Thanks in advance for your advice.

1. Yes. Depending upon the hours you put in per day.
2. Step 1: Kaplan notes/Videos +/- Goljan pathology. Step 2 CK: MTB 2 +/- MTB3 and Kaplan notes. Step 2CS: First Aid +/- CSE videos.
3. Step 1: uworld +/- kaplan. Step 2CK: uworld is the best.
4. Step 1: Depends on the level of your basic sciences knowledge. (I found them helpful esp for physiology and biochem). Step 2CK: No.
5. 230+ to be considered competitive when applying for residency.

This is just what I did, and got the results which I hoped for (pending the CK score obviously). Others may have had a different approach which they probably swear by.

You can go into the main threads page of each steps and find the "Recommend books/qbanks/sources" for each of them respectively.

Hello my friend,
I like that youíre determined and you know what you want, but i think you canít take step 3 in May, you need to be ECFMG certified and then apply to step 3, you need about a month for step 3 application to be approved.
also another advice, Donít Rush your self if you donít feel comfortable giving the test, this test is NOT like PLAB, here you need a score, so take you time, be ready.
Plastic surgery is one of the most competitive here, you should score 255-265 to be competitive, you are competing for few spots and here again i can say, take your time donít rush your self, its more important to score high that taking a test in 3 months.

Best of luck

i agree with the 255-260+ part... I didnt see the "plastic surgery" part in the brackets and thought generally.
