Smile My experience - Step 2 CK, 99

Hi everybody!
I would like to share my experience! I am an old IMG(1999) who never thought of moving to US. I had my own practice, my residency done, my life and was happy with that. All of a sudden, I contacted my sweetheart whom I met when I was 15 yo and he is being living in the US for most of his life. We lost contact for 13 yrs...So we met again and decided to be together and my unexpected USMLE history begins as well as a new and challenge lifestyle, but happy one too.

I had to go back to the basics...studied 10-12 yr a day, no weekends, no trips....and so I studied for 9 months for step 1 last Oct and took step 2 CK last June 9th. By the time I left the center I had no idea how my performance was...NO IDEA AT ALL. Those past 3 weeks have been hard on me, specially because I still have to do the cs, not well prepared yet and will not be able to delay due to personal problems to solve in my country!
So I did study 5 months for step 2 CK:
________________________________
Kaplan lectures notes (Read 3x) + video lectures
Goljan Lectures for step 1 (are better than those for step 2)( listened 2x)
Tons of questions
UW( 67% average)
Did my own notes on the questions I missed and reviewed them afterwards
FA (read dermato, ped, psych and pictures)...I did run out of time and could not read the whole book.
NBME 3 380 and I panicked because I knew I could do better and after all my sacrifice! So I did NBME 2 510. Even though, I took a chance and did the test.
My step 1 NBME underestimated me as well! I know the NBME is a very serious organization ....and I have no idea what might have happened to me on the day...may be in my mind I thought " this is the battle day, go for it or you will die"....
_________________________________
The test is of course a battle field! I panicked in the beginning and managed that ,but might have lost few minutes. I had lots of PED questions in each block at least 5...and this called my attention...
Some questions,I knew what they were talking about but they change the answer in a way that you are in doubt...it īs not a problem with the language but the way it is written to confuse you!
My break time was not managed well...I did not have time to take a break in the last 2 blocks and was exhausted, sad, my brain was "drained"...
So, moral of the history I admire those who work and study at the same time and those who are parents...because this is such a time consuming test and I feel so frustrated, but have to accept its rules!
I would like to thanks this Forum and give back what I have received: words of encouragement!

I have no idea how many questions I did.But a lot!
The test questions were lenghty and it makes no sense to me why.
I understand that writing a clinical scenario is very intelligent ,but a lengthy one....nonsense at all.
Probably it has to do with your capacity to deal with the stress situations...
