Default Need your precious advice guys.. Please reply.

Hi friends...i am a student from india..and finished my internship last month.
i have been studying for usmle since past 1 month and so far it has been going smooth.
But yesterday i talked to my senior who already got matched for a residency program and it really depressed me.
because he asked me the following -
Did i do electives - i said no.
Did i do any research work - I said no.
Am i currently working anywhere - No.

He told me then my CV would be rather weak and asked me to clear the steps as soon as possible and get matched...
But i feel i really need 7-8 months to prepare for step 1.
Please tell me if i take this big a gap after internship without working, would those people consider it as a bad profile?(he said u need to have a strong profile as only 50% IMGs match)

please frankly suggest me how good my chances would be of getting matched.
please tell me frankly coz i dont want to spend my time and money on something in which the chances of getting through are meagre.
PLEASE REPLY GUYS...IT WILL REALLY HELP ME.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Focus on your steps, if you get a good scores, hopefully in 40s no one will look at your gap, most IMGs have gap, don’t worry about this, scores are the most important, as there’s a filter for scores but no filter for gaps, if you get a good scores you will pass the filter and they will look at your application, then you can say whatever you wanna say and give any excuse. if you have experience and research that will make your application even stronger.

Good luck

Thank you so much buddy...it makes me feel better about it now.
I just have a couple of questions more.
Can the usmle score be used to get a pg admission in any other country?
And God forbid i get just an average score and dont get matched for residency, can i get into a research job or something in the US?

Well, i didn't understand your question very well, but you can not use usmle score to get any visa or apply to other residency in Europe or Canada for example since they have their own exams, if u didn't score high don't lose your hope and keep fighting for it, there's always a door, since you have a friend working here he might be able to get you an interview and then you have to prove your self, regarding research yes you can do it regardless of your scores.

My friend, here scores are very important but not everything, program director look at the whole application, they want someone easy to communicate with since you gonna work with them for 3 years, they don't want someone give them hard time.
