Medicolegal and Ethics When to admit the child with suspected abuse!

After confirming child abuse....but with no severe injuries...Do you let the parent take the child home or you admit him....World says admit only if severe injuries.

The point behind admission is to protect the child from the abusers till the child protective services arrive ,you can't let the child go with his parents once you confirmed abuse .

Indications for hospitalization in child abuse from Uptodate:
  • If the child is considered to be unsafe in the care of the parent until after Child Protective Services (CPS) makes an evaluation
  • If the response of CPS or another community agency will be delayed unacceptably.
  • If a protective environment where the child can be evaluated by knowledgeable consultants needs to be provided (if such specialized services are not available in the community)
