Talking Taking exam after august 3rd: gather here!

Hi,
I have my exam in the last week of august.
All those taking the exam after the 3rd of august, after the transition period starts, please gather here, to discuss about the new formats of questions and changes in subject proportions in the new test question pool.

Correct Answer

looks like there are many ppl with the same questions as i have. The usmle website has posted new questions in their fred software. I checked them out and the only changes they have made are adding 5 research interpretation questions in 2 blocks. The rest of the questions remain the same and the block size has been reduced if these "NEW" questions are present.
Seriously, it takes about a minimum of 2 minutes to go through the advertisement completely and personally i am very bad with interpreting these data forms.
Also, every year, it's a trend that the test pool is revised, new questions are added and maybe there is a change in relative proportions of individual subjects.

My exam's on the 23rd.

Anyone having any material useful for answering these research questions, please post here. This will be very useful for everyone taking their exam later.

same here, i'm done with qbook and going to start uworld but i think its not worth buying the whole kaplan qbank for some of those questions, especially when uworld is clearly better than it. Hope to find some other source.

I'm taking mine after August 3rd too. Hoping we will hear back from other people who end up facing some of the new questions. Also keeping an eye on UW in case they update questions. I know they add and remove questions periodically, I've observed the total go up by 2, down by a few.
What are your status' for the readings? I've done KLN once and MTB once. I will be honest - I didnt bother with KLN for Surgery. Should I not skimp on that? Have begun MTB for the second time. And I have MTB 3, not 2.
Good luck with your preparations - such little time we have left!!

iam killing my self to find a seat in july and to end my study in july
iam cheeking prometric every day
and also idont want to set a date b4 doing NBME online so that i will now if iam ready or not
iam doing uw 2nd time and reading MTB 1st time with review in 1ST aid

it seams i will take it in august too

i think the new q will be not a lot in every block
Each drug ad or abstract will appear as a 2- or 3-item set*; examinees will see no more than 5 of these item sets in their examination from usmle.org is that mean 15 q in the 8 block (correct me if iam wrong)
i dont want to panic more than i am
good luck for every one

Cool

hi. nice discussion going.
i have also been planning to schedule my date to 10 august.
i think these new q s will not be bothersome and i hope they would be easy to tackle. Actually it depends how fast u pick the ans from the material ,drug ads and abstract .
biostat , epidemio should be good.

thanks.

That's the scary part - I'm wondering if getting the first answer wrong means you screw up the next 2 question's as well :s

I've been scoring between 55 and 65% on UW. It's my first time, and I'm doing mixed timed blocks. I doubt this is a good score bracket. Anyone else?

I have my exam in 1 month. Omg! I'm starting to get a lil scared. I read MTB once and I'm working on UWorld and almost done with my second reading of MTB. My scores are high 70's / low 80's at the moment. My scores in Kaplan's QBank are not too great. I think they have some mistakes because in some ways MTB and the Kaplan QBank don't agree. I may stop the Kaplan QBank so that I can just finish UWorld. Did anyone else notice differences between Kaplan QBank and UWorld? I don't know if we should freak out too much about these new questions. It seems like we can get an idea of what they're like from the new USMLE questions on their website and the maximum number of questions like that we can get is 15 if my calculation is correct. If I find anything useful online I'll let you all know. If anyone else finds something helpful for these new questions please post it.

they actually mean 5 question sets in the whole exam, not 5 per block. We'd be doomed if if were 15......

5 question sets and each set can have a maximum of 3 questions in the set right? So 5 x 3 = 15. Unless I misunderstood something...

yes, 5 sets x 2/3 questions = 10-15 questions, so we should not totally neglect these
