Question Colles' fracture

Recently I failed one question on Kaplan Qbank.
There was classical X-Ray of Colles' fracture with typical dislocation. Actually I'm orthopedic surgeon and without hesitation choose long cast. But correct answer was - short arm cast
That X-ray seemed for me not very stable for short arm cast (at least for first time) and I sent a message to Kaplan. I received their answer where they discussed about discretion among specialist (about long or short cast)... Well I don't care about different opinion how long it must be etc, my question is simple:

How to answer on the USMLE exam?
Which cast appropriate for a pt with Colles' fracture (long or short)?
a) without dislocation (no need reduction)
b) dislocated (needed close reduction).
Instead of saying “we don’t know why,” though, say “idiopathic.” It sounds so much smarter.
