Question Finasteride and body building

I recently came across this question about a pro bodybuilder taking finasteride for male pattern baldness, worried about effects on DHT levels and effects on bodybuilding. can anybody please explain the role of DHT in muscle mass increase; is it the testosterone not DHT that controls anabolic activities

thanks in advance.

1)The main androgen for skeletal muscle is testosterone.
2)The main androgen for cns, genitals, skin is DHT

Testosterone by 5alphareductase gets converted into DHT
Skeletal muscle lacks this 5 alpha reductase and so more testosterone and also what ever preformed DHT comes to skeletal muscle gets deactivated by 3alpha hydroxysteroid reductase.

In point 2: main androgen is DHT. More ever it has 5 alpha reductase which keep on converting testosterone to DHT.

Finasteride mainly used for male pattern baldness. It is 5alpha reductase inhibitor. so no more conversation of testosterone to DHT. Normaly DHT antagonize the action estrogen. So decrease DHT will increase estrogen...so gynaecomastia etc may occur. Yes there will definatly decrease in muscle mass and strength occur.
