GIT Causes of lower GI bleed in a 75 yr old woman!

A 75 year old woman in otherwise good health visits your office because she has been experiencing blood in her stool that she described as "maroon". Her past medical history is significant for psoriasis and mild degenerative joint disease. In thinking about the possible causes of her lower GI bleed, which of the following lists is in order of most common to least common ?

A. Angiodysplasia>Cancer/Polyps>Diverticulosis
B. Angiodysplasia>Diverticulosis>Cancer/Polyps
C. Cancer/Polyps>Diverticulosis>Angiodysplasia
D. Diverticulosis>Angiodysplasia>Cancer/Polyps
E. Diverticulosis>Cancer/Polyps>Angiodysplasia

It is D. I also was thinking in B but diverticulosis is very common.

Default Answer is A

Diverticulosis by itself doesn't cause lower GI bleeding but diverticulitis does.

So it should be far away at the end of the list

E, and diverticulosis by itself does cause bleeding, its diverticulitis that rarely ever causes bleeding even tho its inflammatory

The correct answer is E. Diverticulosis recounts for 42-55% of lower GI bleeding, followed by cancer/polyps accounting for 8-26% and angiodysplasia for 3-12%.
