Wink Just finished Step 2 CK

At last! This was a very long day... I wrote that they should split the exam in two days because it is too long.

The new format questions are very similar to those you will find in UW and the USMLE sample test.

UW covers most of the subjects in the exam. Reviewing UWSA and the USMLE sample test is very helpful.

Good luck guys.

I would say the same difficulty.... I had trouble with a question about the abstract, but the drugs ads are not too difficult, it is very helpful to understand the biostatistic part. Besides, those blocks where you have Drug ads or abstracts are shorter, just as the USMLE sample test, do it, it helps a lot.

Thank you, there was 8 blocks, in those where you have drug ads or abstracts you will have less questions so time is not going to be a problem, I had some trouble in the end, because I got very tired and I had to read the questions again and again.

8 blocks with the new formats????
that adds up to 16-24 questions!!!!! OMG!!!!!! I hope i don't freak out mid-exam.
Can you tell which system was the most focused on and how were the psychiatry questions? Were they weird?
and do you have any advice or tip for someone like me whoz gonna take the exam in 2 weeks from now? anything that would free up the cerebral congestion with data?

No no...Sorry, I misunderstood your question, you will have 2 or 3 blocks with drug ads or abstracts, each one has 2 or 3 questions, so you will have 6 to 8 questions, I guess it depends of the test, the difficulty is the same, as I previously said, it is important to know the basics of biostatistics.

I could not tell which system was most focused because I got questions of everything. However, UW, UWSA and USMLE sample questions help a lot. <<<<< This is my advice.... do UWSA and review the questions, do the same with USMLE sample questions. A quick review of calculations in biostatistics the day before and the rest is up to you.

If you finished UW, review the questions again so you can recall specific cases.

Look here
http://www.usmle-forums.com/general-...-usmle-cd.html

You will find there some material to practice, the last update was done by July, so it has the drugs ads and abstracts questions. You have to download it and it can be done in your computer.

NBME practice forms give you clues of which subjects you have to focus your study. However, I felt that NBME questions were harder, only when I get my score I could tell if that perception is accurate.

Thanks for your guidance. Can you please tell me something about Drug ads and abstract questions. I don't know exactly what are they?
One more thing what would you recommend FA or MTB2 or MTB3?
Looking for your response.

Congratulations on finishing exam....you are free now....

So do you think micro, pathophysio, and infectious diseases from step 1 is required for exam and uw will cover them or we have to brush up the knowledge a bit.

kAPLAN and MTB are sufficient for exam?? Have you listened to videos before exam?

Well, that part is a little difficult to explain, especially because my preparation was a very irregular in the beginning and I had some personal issues to resolve.

My preparation began in the last week of January, I had a subscription of Kaplan Qbank so I started to read Kaplan books and doing the Qbank, By the end of March I completed about 20% of the Qbank and read all the Kaplan material, then I got MTB 2 which proved to be a very helpful book.

By April I got UW and started its questions, I also did an NBME in which I got 410... not good not bad.... my performance in UW tutor mode was about 65%

I continued with the questions and took another NBME in May, in which I got 430, to be honest, I expected more so I continued my study. By that day my exam was going to be in June 17th. I was doing UW timed mode at that time, my performance was the same, 65%.
I got very stressed because of this, and I took another NBME in the beginning of June in which I got 430 again!! It was so disappointing. I reviewed all the NBMEs and realized that they didn't show any specific weakness so I didn't know what to do. I knew the material, but simply I wasn't capable of getting a good score. I had completed 70% of UW with an average of 67% of correct questions and my original plan was to complete this Qbank just before June 17th. So I decided to pospone the exam to an undetermined date.

I changed my preparation, radically. I joined this community. Besides that, I still had Kaplan Qbank for one month (June) so I decided to continue with it, by the end of the month and my subscription, it was completed by 80% of questions. I did a review of all the study material , my notes and I continued the UW Qbank. (July) I also read USMLE Step 2 secrets to cover the subjects that MTB2 don't.

Surprisingly, when I started to do UW bank again, my scores make a boost to 75-80% and got 84% twice in timed mode. I was very motivated at that time. I was planning to take an NBME at that time, but I didn't want to get dismotivated so instead of that I did the UWSA and USMLE sample test. I schedule the test by August 10th.

Now, when all this thing is over, I believe that my problem was a lack of test taking skills and motivation. Hopefully, I got those in the end.

Answering the question: UW Qbank% was 67% of correct answers overall and after the boost I told you it become 69% overall when I finished all the Qbank. It is very difficult to change that when you have a lot of blocks done.
My UWSA gives me a 255 but I know that this self assessment may overstimate your performance, so I would take this data carefully.
USMLE practice questions: I got 88% in the 3 blocks and 4 of 5 in the audio/video questions. I had to do them separately because I could not take them at once that day. And I insist... review this practice material, it is very helpful.

You should do the practice questions in www.usmle.org and UW, the drugs ad and abstract questions are pretty similar to the exam.
I strongly recommend MTB2, FA was not very useful at all. In my last review I used another book (USMLE Step 2 Secrets 3th edition) which help me to remember another stuff I have forgotten.

MTB2 is a very good book for Internal Medicine
USMLE step 2 secrets is very good for other subspecialties, I used it to cover the facts that MTB didn't have. (specially psychiatry, preventive medicine, OB/GYN)

Kaplan books, MTB2, USMLE Step 2 Secrets 3th edition. Kaplan Qbank and UW bank.
The time was almost 7 months, but it was due to some personal issues that I had, if you can study 100% you can do it in less time.

Yeah, FREE!! at least for now.

Well, to be honest I think you should review STD, and basic concepts of micro and pathophysio, but not too specific, just to recall them easily. Check for biostatistics, you may have some calculation questions.

I didn't use videos, the books with the Qbanks are enough, as the Secrets book I aforementioned.

You have one hour if you skip the tutor, and 45 minutes if you don't.

Well I did this: 2 - 3 - 2 - 1, because I knew that I will need a break for the last block, you get very tired in the end and it surely affect your performance.

Food: I woke up at 6 am, have breakfast: milk, cereal and banana, orange juice and a sandwich. In the exam I ate some chocolate, apples, pears and grapes in the end. Energy drinks: 5 hour energy bottle in the morning and another in the afternoon, it was lifesaving.

Thanks to all for your good wishes, I also hope to have a good performance in the exam. :sorry:

since u have done both uworld n kaplan qbank ,i would like to ask u one question . is it necessary to do kaplan qbank after doing uworld or is uworld sufficient enough to cover all the exam concepts in step 2 ck ? I m asking this cause i m going to complete my uworld qbank n was thinking whether to go for it's revision or kaplanbank .My average in uworld is 63% ,1st time ,time mode, subject wise.

I would say peace in your mind and a purpose. I have met some people who aced it and they have those things in common. I don't know if I will get a high score so I cannot anything else...

Well, It depends of many things. When is your test scheduled? If you have at least two months you could try to do Kaplan Qbank, some people said this Qbank is not good as UW, but for me, it was very challenging, there are some concepts in Kaplan Qbank which are not addressed in UW, not many, but they exist; Otherwise, in the case you have less time, you should review it. I have a friend who took the exam with only UW and Kaplan and he got 95... when the two digit score still existed. Taking the NBME is not a bad idea, but be prepared to get a low score and don't let it make you crazy and feel stressed. If you get a bad score just keep studying.

There are many things you have to think, for instance, what is the score you are pursuing? Is your step 1 an outstanding score? Did you have a strong clinical knowledge from med school? Believe it or not, it counts a lot.

In conclusion: The exam is too long but UW covers most of the topics. It would be enough if you have acquired the testing skills necessary for the exam. Kaplan Qbank could help if you have time and energy. If you are pursuing an outstanding score, you should give it a try.

Someone told me that the more questions you do, the best results you will get, so well, I will know whether it is true or false in 3 or 4 weeks when I get my score report.

All the best in your preparation for your exam.

Hello

Did you finish UW Qbank? You should try to finish it. Kaplan Qbank is good, some question are more difficult than the exam question but I think is better to do this qbank first and then complete the UW qbank.
UWSA is UW Self Assessment, which is a simulated exam, has 4 blocks and gives you a estimation of your score. However, it usually overestimates your score. You may find this UWSA in the UsmleWorld website.

Since you are in the last 10 days of the exam, I would do this: Finishing UW qBank (if it is not finished yet), reviewing high yield topics (you may find the topics here: http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-step-2-ck-high-yield/) reviewing the notes you took from UW qbank, if you took any note), doing the UWSA (don't forget to review the questions), also do the sample qbank of the usmle.org website, check the answers too.
The last day in the morning, review some of the biostatistic concepts and calculations, so you can recall them in the exam. If you have FA you should do the quick review in the end of the book, I think it is useful too.

Take that afternoon to relax, go to cinema, or do something to help you get tired and be able to sleep well (it is difficult to sleep before the exam). That is up to you, you may want to take all the day off of studies, that is OK.

The last week is only for reviewing, focus in high yield topics.

Good luck.
