Default step1 score 212 :( very depressed

I got my Step1 score 2 weeks ago and was in complete shock for past 2 weeks. Finally, gathered my strength to seek help.

I am an IMG (Caribbean Med school) who studied for 6 months. My nbmes were all in 220s-230s range. I do not know what happened.

I want to rectify my mistakes and make up for my low scores (212). I have more pressure now to do well on Step2, good LORs, do research, USCE, etc. Visa needed. Do not have contacts either. What are my chances for FM/IM/Neurology/Peds/Obygyn? Please be honest and guide me if you can.

I am looking for any motivational stories or miracles where people were able to match. Any guidance, tips, suggestions would be helpful. I need to read and hear more success stories to stay positive.

Please help and if you are in a similar situation, let's start a group to help each other out, stay positive, patient, and motivated!

The only advice i will give you is not to start worrying about residency just yet. Keep going, push harder, one step at a time...you are done with step 1...start step 2 ck...and so on...after you have done step 2 ck and cs, you can start looking for USCE or research in the US, and thats a way of also getting LORs....but for now...focus on the next step...that is STEP 2 CK and CS.
Good luck!

But I have to plan out everything now. I cannot make stupid mistakes and try where I might still have a chance. I now some programs filter you out if your step1 score is below 220. I will be doing my 3rd and 4th year in US. So, i will get 2 years of USCE (and LORs). I am also looking into doing research. But I have no contacts and am a Canadian citizen. So visa will be an issue also.

I want to read and seek guidance where people were able to move further. Sure, it will not be easy by any means but I still have that tiny hope because I knew my stuff. I just do not know what happened. Some people say it is better to fail step1 then to get a low score. But even after my exam, I was sure I got >220

I will start my STEP2CK prep now. Thank you!

Yes, I just finished 2 years of Basic Sciences. I have to live with 212 I know but i do not want to make any mistakes in STEP2 CK/CS prep and move forward with caution. Do I have a chance in FM at least? What do you suggest for Step2 CK?

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement Good luck !!!

You still have a chance in Surgery if you work hard dude. Get a book (MTB 2 & 3 or FA CK)..which ever you like more, and start reading...it all depends on when you plan to take your test.

Hi doc,

Sorry to hear that I am in the same boat I did step 1 about 2 months ago and got 198!!((( it s the worst score anyone can get I wanna apply for OBGYN and I know that my chances are really low. But the only thing I feel it can help us is that we have to study really well for step 2 and get a high score, even above 250!! For myself I know it sounds like mpossible to me but if I get a low score in the next step there won't be any chance for me (( ur score is even better than mine so don't lose ur hope.just study as hard as u can. Wish u the best luck my friend.
